Airband Connect

Does anybody know anything about the new Airband Connect service?

We are out of range of their normal fixed wireless service, but they are now offering this as an alternative. Talking to their (not very clued up technically) sales person today, I got as far as them describing it as "4G technology", with a better coverage footprint than their original fixed wireless. They didn't have any pictures or technical description of the kit, but it was described as like a small satellite dish about the size of a football.

I read that as basically just reselling somebody else's 4G, but packaged with a high gain antenna. We get a reasonable 4G signal from EE (Band 3, -91 dBm RSRP and -11 dB RSRQ) with a Poynting external antenna, so it doesn't seem to offer any additional benefits, but does anybody here use it?

Don't use them but it does sound like repackaged 4G for which they add on their own margin. I use a satellite dish to focus onto a 4G receiver and get very good speeds 8km away from the mast, performance is not weather affected unlike my previous Yagi array. Sat dish needs Line of Sight to work though.

I live about a mile from an Airband mast and their postcode checker tells me that I can receive their service. However my neighbour who lives slightly closer to the mast cannot receive it , he had someone from Airband do a survey for him.
Apparently a lot of properties within a relative short distance of the mast cannot receive it mainly because of the number of tall trees in the area!
I've not heard of Airband connect and I cannot see any mention of it on their website.
I use Three with an external antenna connecting to a mast 10 miles/16 km away and it works perfectly.
If you're happy with EE then stick with it , Airband isn't exactly cheap. Have you tried Three?

Thanks folks. I’ve used Three in the past, but they only offer 3G here! Not sure why, as everybody else offers 4G (even if it’s only Band 20). Airband connect isn’t advertised specifically, but it was offered to us when the postcode checker said that “we were close to their service so click here and we’ll work out the best way to connect you”, or words to that effect.

What we really wanted of course was FTTP. We are frustratingly close to their proposed ConnectingCheshire project but not in scope. The published coverage doesn’t make obvious sense. They’re bringing new fibre hundreds of metres (or more) into areas with no existing ducts or overhead lines, then only covering some properties rather than utilise existing poles to extend to more potential customers.
