AIS ZTE MC888 Review and Information

Hello everyone. I am originally from the UK and was using my MU5001 I got from vodafone over here in Thailand until it broke recently i'm not quite sure if i can repair it. the sim slot has been damaged and the button no longer ejects any sim.

So I got my hands on a brand new ZTE MC888. I believe this is the latest model and as far as I know Thailand is one of the first few countries to get it and let you buy the device outright.

On paper this seems like a very capable router.

however, in reality AIS have locked the firmware down to only these bands

arai wa! as they would say in thai. this isn't good. so far I've been able to hack it enough (using the MU5001 javascript hack) to get it to lock onto a band thats outside the 5 locked bands.

Looks like a familiar old friend seanTH. (MC801A) 😊
I wonder if the antenna sockets are still as 'delicate'

Looking at the piccy it doesn't have any.

Supports VoLTE but I assume it will be locked to AIS.

No ant ports either sadly. But seems to pick up a very good signal in this apartment. My pixel 6 can only do 2CA in band 40 while this seems to be able to do 3CA.

the problem with the band lock hack is you can only use it on one band at a time which isn't a problem here but I can imagine it will be useless in the UK.

need to find a way to get it to unlock all the bands properly without having to force the device to do band locking.

The last time I came across an ZTE that had restricted Bands to lock within the Firmware, I managed to get around this by using a mix of the Debug Page then complete using the Devices own Firmware Band Locking in order to achieve the desired results.

So, as an Example, I wanted to Band Lock for, B1, B3 and B7 with n78, but there was no B1 within the Firmware's Band Locking Menu, I first went to the DeBug Page and selected only B1 and locked this Band within Debug Page, I then went to the normal Firmware Menu and Select B3, B7 and n78, after this I achieved Band Locking for B1, B3, B7 and n78 all worked fine.
