Am I being Pipex/Tiscali subtly conned here?

I'm still on Pipex at present but the other day I surfed into the website out of curiosity in relation to their takeover lot Tiscali's home user prices. The icon takes you into Tiscali and I got a surprise. Presently on 24/7 calls, line rental and broadband I find that it is £10 cheaper than I am paying. I emailed them last Saturday and have still heard nothing. In addition if you go into their comparison lists with other ISP's then Pipex (understandably) doesn't show. I feel I am being conned here?

as far as l have heard they are moving pipex non-business customers to the Tiscali network dont quote me tho as this is only what l believe l have read around the forums.

Oh they are; that’s not just forum posts, Tiscali have said themselves that's what they're doing (migration customers on to their platform). There are a couple of news items with quotes elaborating a bit more in our archives too.

However, though you may be moved on to their platform, it's worth remembering that your connection profile should remain set to what it was under Pipex. If you were to swap on to Tiscali's cheaper price plan then I suspect they would not only try to lock you into a new contract but also change your profile, potentially resulting in even worse performance.

Yes you might well be right there. Everything is still working okay but as I say was annoyed at the big difference in cost and still awaiting their response to my second attempt to query this. Think I will phone Tiscali and then decide to maybe move elsewhere. I am certainly not going to wait much longer as that is a week since my first message sent them so of they are not going to bother themselves I will start moving and request my Mac Code instead.

WSell i received word that my account has been reduced from 29.99 to 22.49. Now that makes me think. if the pipex setuo is now for business customers and residentials oved to Tiscali there must be legions out there who are still being conned as I was??

Im having similar problems. Been on the phone to the Philipines and Lithuania most of the day thanks to Pipex/Tiscali. My 8MB connection now seems to run at 2-3MBs so Ive asked for a MAC code and am looking around for a new ISP.

Welcome d4ngerous what you need to check is if your exchange has been unbundled by Tiscali if it has then you could have been migrated over to Tiscali LLU so will have to pay the re-activation fee to ove back to IPstream.

Pipex nightmare

However, though you may be moved on to their platform, it's worth remembering that your connection profile should remain set to what it was under Pipex. If you were to swap on to Tiscali's cheaper price plan then I suspect they would not only try to lock you into a new contract but also change your profile, potentially resulting in even worse performance.

As part of an ongoing nightmare with Pipex (no service for two months, no response to letters/ emails, slamming of land line by Pipex Homecall, and so on) they have said I took out a new contract with them when I accepted a reduced rate last December. That was offered, I thought, as compensation for a whole series of disasters which I now believe were part of the switch to Tiscali.
The service has got progressively worse but they won't let me cancel without paying for the remainder of my 'new' contract, over £100. In the meantime I am missing out on great offers from other ISPs.
And to add to their money grubbing, they changed all their contact numbers to 0871 prefix.

I am totally disgusted with them so if you want to get a better deal I recommend you go elsewhere as their service is going to get worse. If you accept a reduction, be warned, you will be locked in to them for at least 12months more, no matter how long you have already been a customer.
