Andrew’s & Arnold L2TP service review

No its a standard 10 GBP/month domestic plan

... then ask them nicely for a /29 block YMMV

That's why A&A service & support is exceptional
Agreed, it's the only isp with proper support and good old values, probably also due to its size and culture. All the rest are a Russian roulette.

Indeed, too many people love to flex about their download speed or unlimited bandwidth (this thread included) as the only worthwhile metric while completely failing to grok the importance of service and support and the very real benefits that gives you as a customer.

/32 static IPv4 + /29 static block IPv4 ... on domestic tariff.

Just ask, that's how exceptional A&A service is..
This is not what is stated on their website. I don't know if you are paying extra for this or not, image was manipulated or screenshot taken by someone else. Also I am not going to investigate that. Nobody said their service is bad btw.

OVH has their DC in UK too and I used it only as an example you guys stick to. There are other options often cheaper than £10/month and without limits.
Its a datacentre IP still If its working for streaming services you lucky. :)

Also you reminded I need to kill a couple of VPS, as they now useless for using for consumer stuff, even just hosting my own DNS on them (including UK location) would get me marked as a proxy/VPN on netflix, prime video etc. I wasnt even proxying or VPN, they just detected DNS IP was not consumer.

Is that value going beyond of your limited imagination? Imagine (for a while) that you have kids doing two 4k streams at a time and or downloading gigs of games/updates while you watching third stream. Then some content served from your VMs and offsite backups running. I didn't say everyone is doing that and 5TB will not be sufficient for them.
Now check 4k stream bitrate in Netflix/Prime/Disney/HBO and run your calculator again. It is between 10 and 30, rounded to 15 will give you about 112megabytes per min per single stream and this is well underrated. Then prepare for all linear TV going for IPTV - Sky already announced that or people watching TV on NowTV 6h a day.

1.2TB a month, I think it would be unusual for a household to have 3 4k streams going for 6 hours a day for a full month. So I put you in the unusual category if thats whats going on in your household. But even with this unusual usage 5TB is enough.

Of course netflix etc. wouldnt work at all on any known DC IP, if it does its because they not discovered it yet.

Anyone know if A&A's L2TP offering allows changing the reverse IP record to another name ? i.e. for email servers etc

It does.

"To set reverse DNS for your IPs, you can set your own nameservers on the Login page, or add A+Reverse/PTR records on a domain that you have with us. See wiki for more info."

Might be quite complex if the domain also isn't with A&A.

I assume that's if your ISP is A&A ? Presumably you can do the same thing A&A's L2TP service.

What I would be doing is my CGNAT'd ISP and have A&A supply a fixed IP L2TP for email etc. I currently don't have CGNAT but fibre is coming soon which will be CGNAT'd

I've been a happy A&A customer - first, purchase of ISDN equipment and an ISDN line and then continuously for more than 22 years up till now, ADSL, FTTC and finally bonded FTTC.

The A&A service has really been excellent throughout the whole time and I don't have a single bad word to say about them.

Unfortunately, I have to jump ship now to an Altnet which arrived here this week (I'm now getting about 935 Mbps up and down compared to 85 / 15 before). When A&A have something comparable in speed, I'll be back in a shot!

In the meantime, A&A's L2TP service will save me from the horrors of CGNAT with the new provider.
