Annual price increase transparency.

I've just received a "Important information about your mobile plan price" (AKA the usual excuse to put the price up for no good reason) email from plusnet which I thought I'd bring up on here as it seems highly disinguinuous in my opinion. Its actually my mobile phone Sim only contract, but it comes with 5GB of mobile data so I thought I'd post it on here.

It states "This is in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI rate) of inflation published by the Office for National Statistics in January 2023 plus 3.9%" which is all well and good. What it doesn't make clear at all is what the CPI rate is (neither on the email or on the "find out more" page http://comm.plus.net/c/1qxEGWBlClnLLFu8J9kmWMl6Pt ), because the 3.9% would be an increase of 23 pence per month for me, not the actual 86 pence increase.

I was only paying £6 a month for 5gb/unlimited calls and texts but still the increase of 86p seems a bit out of joke to me! Really, its the principle of it.

Wouldn't it be more prudent and transparent in future to make companies actually explain where the vast majority of the added cost is coming from rather than just giving a lower "Plus 3.9%" figure, and maybe what as customers we're getting extra for an actual 14.33% increase?

You will not as technically it's a PAYG bundle where you purchase a 5GB bundle with unlimited calls and texts for £6 each month.

Runs on the EE network, same coverage as plusnet mobile, but you do not see price increases.

Thanks dude, my contract ends in April so I'll do it then! :)

The flip side of it being a PAYG bundle is that they can increase it to whatever they like whenever they like.

Agreed, but MVNOs on EE are low on the ground, 1pmobile, Now Mobile, RWG, Plusnet, To The Moon.

RWG is the only one offering 5GB for £6 that is not increasing from what I can see.

RWG got back to me with "we are committed to remaining with the same pricing for at least until 31/12/2023."
