I've just received a "Important information about your mobile plan price" (AKA the usual excuse to put the price up for no good reason) email from plusnet which I thought I'd bring up on here as it seems highly disinguinuous in my opinion. Its actually my mobile phone Sim only contract, but it comes with 5GB of mobile data so I thought I'd post it on here.
It states "This is in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI rate) of inflation published by the Office for National Statistics in January 2023 plus 3.9%" which is all well and good. What it doesn't make clear at all is what the CPI rate is (neither on the email or on the "find out more" page http://comm.plus.net/c/1qxEGWBlClnLLFu8J9kmWMl6Pt ), because the 3.9% would be an increase of 23 pence per month for me, not the actual 86 pence increase.
I was only paying £6 a month for 5gb/unlimited calls and texts but still the increase of 86p seems a bit out of joke to me! Really, its the principle of it.
Wouldn't it be more prudent and transparent in future to make companies actually explain where the vast majority of the added cost is coming from rather than just giving a lower "Plus 3.9%" figure, and maybe what as customers we're getting extra for an actual 14.33% increase?
