Another fttp availability query

Hi everyone,

I would welcome thoughts on my scenario which I have outlined below.

Before I get in to what is currently happening, let me explain the local set-up… on the next street there is a telegraph pole which had CBTs mounted on it last summer (I think I counted 24 or 28 ports) and which Openreach / Kier have been doing work on in recent months. That pole feeds two other poles via overhead cables - one on the same street (about a 40m span) and a second on my street (with the cable going over two back gardens, about a 30m span) which feeds my house. Neither of the two secondary poles have CBTs on them.

This morning, after months and months of checking, I was excited to see the speed on the BT Wholesale Checker for my address (I have BT Digital Voice so I can’t check my number) jump from 330 to 1,000. My excitement was short lived however, and I realised it still said ‘FTTP On Demand’ rather than ‘FTTP WBC’. I then went to check addresses on the next street (which I have been doing every day as well, and up until this morning were reporting 330 speeds and FTTP on demand only) and, for properties served directly from the main pole, and the secondary pole on the same street, FTTP WBC is now being reported and they can also order on BT’s website.

So… do I just have bad luck? The Openreach checker (which I’m not sure I believe) is still reporting build complete by end of June (but that has been being pushed back since last year). I wonder if the fact that the fibre cable from the main pole would have to go over two back gardens (to get to the pole that feeds my house) is the issue, and it is just ‘too hard’?

Thoughts welcome everyone. Any recommendations of who I can get in touch with to check?

Thank you in advance!

Wait a couple of days, the speed for FoD usually goes up first, and shortly after the speed for FTTP WBC will go up as well.

And thereafter there will be a delayed response from all of the OpenReach ISPs for them to ingest the update for your postcode and determine whether they are going to market FTTP at your address... BT/EE are usually quick. Other ISPs that opt to use OpenReach backhaul it's usually just a tick box exercise but some ISPs that do their own backhaul may have no or limited bandwidth on their own backhaul at your fibre handover exchange (which may be different to your existing VDSL exchange) which means they may delay or bandwidth limit their FTTP services initially.

Fingers crossed you get the FTTP WBC in a few days.

Thank you, plunet! That gives me hope!

Just to follow up on this… it is now two weeks since I noticed the change from FTTPoD 330 to FTTPoD 1000, and still no change.

Is it worth a query to Openreach? I’m of course happy to be patient but my trepidation lies in the fact that that neighbours served by the same telegraph pole as me can order FTTP and I can’t.

My neighbor was able to order around a month earlier than i could. Mine still showed 330 for around 3 weeks and then switched to 1000 on demand. A week after that it changed to WBC and now have my install on the 19th.

I did end up contacting Openreach 2 weeks after my neighbor was able to order but was unable to help due to it being R100 contract. You could wait another couple of weeks but i don't see any harm nudging Openreach in the meantime with their customer form

Hi everyone.

Just an update on this… it doesn’t sound promising!

In summary, at the end of June, the pole serving my house went live for FTTP for my neighbours, and in conjunction my BT Wholesale Checker changed from FTTPoD 330 to FTTPoD 1000, so I thought I was a few days away from being able to order. However, today, the Openreach Checker changed from September 2024 to December 2026, so it feels further away than ever!

A recap of my situation…

Like a lot of people, I have been waiting for FTTP for a long time. While the Openreach Checker has been gradually moving out, it always remained relatively current; it moved from December 2023 to March 2024 to June 2024 to September 2024.

At the end of June, the telegraph pole that serves my house (via a carrier pole) went live for FTTP.

The properties connected to that pole can order FTTP. My house and the others connected to the carrier pole cannot. However, in conjunction with the main pole going live, my BT Wholesale Checker record changed from FTTPoD 330 to FTTPoD 1000, so I thought our houses would follow a few days later.

My address has stayed at FTTPoD 1000 ever since, so last week I raised a “my neighbours can get FTTP but I can’t” query through Openreach.

Today I got a response, telling me that fibre wasn’t planned for my area (despite numerous update emails over the last year telling me it was coming). The Openreach Checker has also changed from September 2024 to December 2026!

So from feeling very hopeful a few weeks ago, it now feels further away than ever!

Has anyone else had a similar experience. Is there any other route I can try to get clarity on the situation?

Thank you in advance.

Complain to openreach chief executive direct by email ,you will then be contact by there complaints department direct, hopefully they can sort you out
