Another tired VM ADSL customer :(

Hi all

I signed up for VM back in June when there was no contract. For the first few days it was fine and I was overjoyed to go from a 2mb to 8mb, I was easily reaching my max connection speed too.

A few weeks after I noticed the performance started to fluctuate and it was starting to annoy me but I persisted and however it remained bad. :(

Up until the past few weeks it remained like that, then about 3 weeks ago I saw vast improvements in download speed and ping times (Although I was still unable to play games like CSS due to being constantly kicked from the server because of ping times, but they still were better). I was once again happy with my service and I even recommended it to a few people, although I wish I didn't now.

A few days ago I noticed the speed decreasing steadily and pages beginning to load slower etc. Then yesterday up until 4pm I was receiving less than half of dial up speed, according to BT's speedtester I was receiving a poor 23 KBPS. :( Pages just weren't loading at all and I was unable to download anything. Come 4pm I was on the normal traffic managed speed again (which I'm used to even though sometimes I only download less than 100mb in 1 night I still get put on it), which was semi-bearable.

Today it has been okay again, maximum download speed with IDM was 400kb/s which is about half of what I've been used to for the past few weeks. Conveniently they also appear to have changed my contract so now my 1month minimum term contract has turned into a 12 month minimum and I have to pay £50 to exit. My only option other than that would be to switch to 20mb cable which seems to be the only way to avoid paying the exit fee.

I was just wondering if any of you had any experience with the 20mb and ping times with games especially?

Thanks

As far as I know and have seen - the cable platform does not suffer from the awful performance that the ADSL does.

Are you in an ex NTL or Telewest area?

lve notieced the bad speeds as well... daytime speeds are being capped as well... up til 4pm it took ages for most pages to load...

I signed up in June after being with TalkTalk for two years, who were actually very good. I alwasy got full speed with them, but 1mb didn't quite cut it anymore. :(

I wish BT would get a move on and upgrade my exchange for ADSL 2+ so I can hopefully get Be.

And goodbye Virgin Media. :)

Just asked for my MAC code (which cost £90 + a months payment, although I'm going to make a claim for the money back after I get the code) which will hopefully come in the next few days. Then I'll be with UKFSN. :)
