morning all,

i posted on here back in 2020 due to low speeds (looking at buying a non talktalk wifi router), the speeds picked up fine but i have a problem that has surfaced the last two months whereby the talktalk super router mysteriously restarts. This causes major problems as the wife now works from home.

this is our current setup

i have contacted the talktalk ref the 'common' problem where the router is randomly restarting throughout the day. the following has been done.

1- New updated second version talktalk hub sent out and installed, problem still here

2 - BT Opnereach engineer came to house, tested lines all ok speeds fine, chnaged face plate on wall, changed adsl cable, change connectors on copper wire that comesinto house, problem still there

3- I have gone onot the router and looked at logs , the strange thing is when the router goes down it sometimes shows and other times it doesnt, just comes up with a load of DNS errors.

4- The latest resolution offered is to put the OLD talktalk router back and update the firmware, ive questioned this but guess ill have to do it

5 - BT Openrech engineer suggested unplugging tplinks and google speakers around the house, i said the problme cant be this as it was working fine nothing new has been added, however i tried and it still happened

My main question here is could I try another NON TALKTALK GFAST wifi router and see if that eliminates the problem and proves its talktalk router?

can anyone suggest a non expensiove gfast alternative wifi router, i know back in 2020 they were quite rare

sorry for the long psot and thanks for any help

cheers

The picture is not clear (its a thumbnail not the full picture) but you look to have a G-fast modem with a Talk Talk router, so any router with an ethernet WAN can replace the TT router as long as it takes the TT login credentials and method. No need for a G-fast router as you look to already have the modem, but a better picture would confirm.

Alternatively what are the model numbers of the boxes and what cable type connects them.

thanks for reply

you are correct it is a BT Openreach GFAST modem, as yiou quite righlty say i just need to purchase any router WITH and ethernet WAN port for testing.

would you have a suggested router?

thanks again
