How much will it cost and wat and wat I needed any help appreciated

Best way to do it is install linux or a BSD variant, that way you can write your own firewall rules.

do a thing you can put on an old PC to turn it into a (linux based) hardware firewall;
just dload the ISO from their website, burn it as a CD, boot from cd on yr old PC & you're up & running after about 10 minutes. No linux knowledge or anything reqd. No compatibility problems /w attaching windows pcs to it etc.
I've been using it for moonths & i find it excellent.
Oh, & its free!
Just be aware that cos its a free product, you got 2 b careful if you go to them for support. Make sure you've read the FAQ's & googled around a bit 1st, or they'll chew yr head off apparently :)

(If in doubt, post question here (or email me), I've set up a few smoothwall machines, so I can prolly help with obvious stuff)

pretty sure you'll be ok with a p133 & smoothwall; (i had probs with an old 486, it'd struggle if it had to redial lots, better now ive got a faster pc)

Not a reply I know, but hopfully I will be switching from AOL 56k to ADSL this week, Im using sygate as a firewall and norton ant V software, thinking of switching over to zonealam Pro 3 as it does both, any one got any thoughts on this, also know there is a Tiny firewall and one called Black Ice, which one should I think of using for a Home PC as a Firewall>

Thanks

Linux Firewalls

I found this thread in a search for Linux Firewall, but noticed that it is from 2002. Has anyone got any recent experience of either Smoothwall, IPCop or Clark Connect, or any other Linux firewalls that I can use on an old PC?

Any opinions on what would be easiest to set up would be most useful.

Thanks

IP Cop is great. Just make sure if you are using 1.3.0 that you download all the updates once the system is up and running.

I know that it's been a while since there's been a post in this thread but for future reference, there's an active discussion on Smoothwall and IPCop plus directions, hints and tips to be had here.
