Any Openreach ISPs which offer 900Mb FTTP and SIP VOIP?

I'm currently in the market for a new ISP (currently Sky) and I'm wondering which ISPs offer FTTP and a SIP VOIP service (i.e. you're not forced to use their router for VOIP) with no mid-contract prices or 12 month contracts?

Going by the top 10 list and a chat I know Zen does, but I'm concerned about some of the more recent reviews I've read.

Obviously the alternative is to use separate providers, currently considering Aquiss for my ISP, but when I did the maths for this over 2 years Zen was actually cheaper when including their VOIP service. Which is why I'm now starting to look around to see if there is anything similar to what Zen offers.

I know Giganet were meant to be launching a VOIP service, but I can't see it anymore on their homepage and their broadband only goes up to 500mbps.

Thank you.

What exactly is your issue?

Third party VoIP is available regardless of Broadband provider

ISPs are divided into four basic groups:
  • ISPs with option of Digital Voice centrally provisioned through their proprietary router (BT, Sky, VM etc)
  • ISPs with Routers that can support optional VoIP (manually entered credentials)
  • ISPs who provide optional Voice using an additional ATA
  • ISPs that provide broadband only.
If you want to use your own router I'd simply suggest selecting the best/cost Broadband service that supports own use and then select a suitable VoIP provider for your use case.

Currently I'm with Sipgate for VOIP which cancelled my domestic plan and moved me onto a significantly more expensive business plan. I've tried to find an alternative but when I last looked there wasn't one I liked.

I was hoping Giganet would launch theirs to third party ISPs but I haven't got high hopes at this point.

Since I'm looking at switching ISPs, I figured I might as well see if there are any providers which offer VOIP and SIP support so I can use my own Router and ATA whilst potentially saving money in either the short or long term.

When I contacted Zen, they said they would provide the SIP details.

Most ISPs are providing voice not because they want to but rather because a portion of customers expect it.

Who is the best VoIP supplier currently depends on how you intend to use the line. Currently its a minefield as highlighted in my recent comparison.

I will revise it with the 1st April price rises and await BT/EE branding that may include a separate Digital Voice product. BT sets the base line others follow.

Digital Voice should be cheaper but these companies do not want their revenue figures to suffer.

Perfectly possible to run Digital Voice and an alternative voip solution at the same time as I do with my BT SmartHub 2.

The problem is I want to use my own router and ATA, most of the ISPs I've found require you to use their router for voice (e.g. BT, Sky, Vodafone, etc.).

It's also more common now on FTTP to see ISPs which don't offer any telephony at all (e.g. Cuckoo, Aquiss, Talktalk, etc.).

So far Zen is the only one I'm aware of which offers VOIP on their FTTP package and VOIP whilst providing the SIP details so I can avoid their equipment completely.

I plan on switching next week to a different provider and just wanted to know if there were any reasonably decent ISPs I missed which match my requirements.

Is there a particular reason why you want to buy your VoIP service from the same supplier as your broadband? For ease of use and support domestic broadband suppliers who care to offer a digital voice service are almost certainly going to force this into being provided by their router which appears to be something you don't want.

You should really look at the list of other VoIP providers, just in the same way you had your VoIP with Sipgate in the past, you could move your VoIP service to AAISP or Voipfone.

Yes, but are you looking for residential or business?

I would never go with a regular ISP for voip. You can get it significantly cheaper going to a third party VOIP provider than what ISPs offer- Sipgate / A&A / Voipify / YAY / JustVoip etc

Plus if you leave your ISP at the end of your contract you don't have to worry about porting your number.

I am with SIPgate. I paid them £10 a year ago and still have only used £3 of it. And I use my phone quite a lot (the real benefit is every sipgate customer phones each other for free so just get all your friends and family onto it too).

I know other third party VOIP providers have the same free calls offer for friends and family also with the same provider to make it worth while going to any of them that do

I'm merely considering my options in case there's something I'm unaware of that could potentially save me money.

For example, I worked out over 2 years that Zen would be cheaper than Aquiss + Sipgate, although the latter is a 12 months vs 24 month contract.

I have looked at alternative VOIP providers but they all had issues one way or another. Although I have received a response from Giganet stating their plan is still WIP.

Sipgate is exiting the residential market, I was forced away from my starter plan onto a much more expensive business plan.

Which is a pain because the Starter plan I was on with UK landline + mobile minutes was fine for my needs.

I’ve been pleased with Voipfone for my business line. I use a Gigaset hub that presents my business and home (BT digital voice) to my handsets with different ring tones.

There are some that provide exactly what you want. I'd avoid any digital voice providers like the plague.
