Anyone else having problems with ADSL Max?

Hi,

I got upgraded from pipex 2MB service to 8mb ADSL Max. My router actually does connect at 7992 or something which im told is quite rare and I have had download speeds of 800k/sec which I am very pleased about. However, the connection seems strangely 'laggy'. When browsing the net occasionally it just slows right down or pauses for long periods before resuming. This never happened to me before whilst on the 2mb service.

This effect is much more pronounced in online games where I get disconnections and terrible lag making play very difficult.

I was wondering if anyone else has experienced any problems when updating to the adsl max product from the standard 2mb? Btw my upgrade was done on the 21st november so the 'settling in' period they mention is definately over.

Regards
-Paul

Check with your isp if your connection has interleaving turned on, this is used to correct errors. Doing this will increase latency and therefore notice a problem when playing games, turning it off may mean that your downstream will drop but your gaming experience should improve.

Given em a call!

I will try this. However, my chances of getting through to someone on the telephone, nevermind them knowing what they are talking about are slim - none :(

nope i never had any problems except for a few days of slow download speeds immediately after the regrade (and an unrelated issue with the modem).

Possibly your synch is set too high

possibly interleaving, except my router tells me my connection is interleaved but my pings are still generally low. Has the pings shot up for all servers in your game?

Thanks for the replies guys and sorry for the slow response.
My pings have shot up. For example. In BF2142 i was getting 20-30 for quite a lot of servesr now im getting min 50 mostly higher.

My actual connection is at:
Line Rate - Upstream (Kbps): 448
Line Rate - Downstream (Kbps): 7360

I dunno if it helps but here is some other info i get from my router:
VPI/VCI | Category | Service Name | Int Name | Protocol | Encap
0/38 | UBR | pppoa_0_38 | ppp41 | PPPoA | VC/MUX

Igmp | State | Status| IP Address
Enabled | Enabled | Up | **.**.**.** (hidden for obvious reasons)

Diagnostics on the router come back fine:
Test your Ethernet Connection: PASS Help
Test the connection to your DSL service provider
Test ADSL Synchronization: PASS Help
Test ATM OAM F5 segment ping: PASS Help
Test ATM OAM F5 end-to-end ping: PASS Help
Test the connection to your Internet service provider
Test PPP server session: PASS Help
Test authentication with ISP: PASS Help
Test the assigned IP address: PASS Help
Ping default gateway: PASS Help
Ping primary Domain Name Server: PASS Help

Is there any more info i can get for u?

The attenuation/loop loss and SNR margins would be good, and no nothing has changed in terms or wiring etc but the exisiting cabling etc may not be to up to the job with the new faster service.

Ok an update on this, something miraculous has happened. Pipex have taken on more staff!! I called them up today and they ANSWERED THE PHONE! I almost fell off my chair. I didnt even have to go on hold at all, the guy I spoke too was very helpful. He said that interleaving is enabled on all new connections to make them more stable but if i run a few speed tests by signing on to a particular account and going to an IP, they can send the results to BT. If no problems are detected on the line they will disable interleaving and see if that is what has raised my ping times.

So, I now have a strong suspicion that interleaving is the problem and I see light at the end of the tunnel !!!!

I will keep you updated.
