Anyone on Giganet?

crazy I am not far london 15ms best what a **** giganet
just leave them if you dont like the ping and they wont fix it, you can pick tons of isps that use openreach,

I get 3ms from Northampton.

Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=3ms TTL=120

Im only 60 miles from London so i guess that helps.

@jalzoo is that with Openreach?

I'm a similar distance to you - Brighton. I guess less good backhaul routing for me (I presume it's zen, but don't know for sure). Probably some congestion. I occasionally get as low as 4.x ms, but sometimes 7ms. It's never bad, but I guess the link is probably running hotter....?

(This is on ethernet connected devices - multiple, and via 2 different routers for testing)

Maybe the network is like the trains (when they run). So many people go london<->brighton!

I'm running through Cityfibre. Excited for 2.5gig City fibre have done 2 lots of maintenance in Northampton upgrading switches apparently. Will probably switch to aaisp as i know they will be launching 2.5g as soon as CF are ready.

Ah. Yes I had heard latency there is better

CityFibre are deploying in Brighton (up until 2025 I think). A few areas are live, but no sign here yet. We're in the broad build area, but also on a private road. Who knows if wayleave issues, though we have new BT ducts, so might be ok if they use pia

This was one reason I went with giganet in the first place - knowing cityfibre could come any time...!

Agree cityfibre is more appealing with up to 2.5 Gbps (for now - 10 later). That being said I went with 500/70 on BT. Can't really make use of 1000, though 500/500 would be better to get the upload symmetric..

But always remember Brighton is a much nicer place to live than Northampton 😄. To be honest I barley ever use the full gigabit connection maybe when downloading legal torrents ;-) I'll push full gigabit but I'm not doing that all the time. I play world of Warcraft and having low latency is nice but can I really tell the difference between 3ms and 10ms when I was on VSDL a few years ago?, Not at all. I guess if i could afford a ferrari i would buy one but i wouldn't drive it everyday I suppose its a similar story to having 2.5g/10g having it there is nice.

Apologies for the slight hijack but I have a quick question about Giganet.

On the Giganet network, are you limited to Giganet as an ISP or is it a wholesale platform where you can sign up with other ISPs as well?

Perhaps this article will help understand? They have their own infra, and also they sell packages based on Openreach and Cityfibre infra.

I'm talking about Giganet's own network/fibre. Is that a wholesale platform? I'm aware you can sign up to Giganet (as an ISP) on Cityfibre and Openreach networks.

Giganet's own network is not a wholesale platform. If your property is served solely by Giganet's own network then you don't have a choice of ISP

Sorry, a couple more questions about Giganet:

1. Do they offer IPv6?
2. Is their own network XGS-PON or GPON?

Yes they offer IPv6

Their network is currently GPON, I did message them to ask if they will support multi gigabit in the future and they said yes they will. So eventually they will launch 2.5gbps over XGS-PON and 2gbps over GPON in areas unable to get XGS-PON.

This is just a guess im going by what other isp's are doing.
