AOL set to be split from Time Warner

Hmm I wonder who will buy its content division since Carphone Warehouse already owns AOL UK's Internet access customers.

The fanfare during the merger about creating the great Internet/content monolith hasn't quite gone to plan, has it?

That's what I was going to post as well. Now YouTube, Hulu, iPlayer, and podcasts, amongst others, have stolen their lunch. :hrmph:

There's no way AOL, as a content only group, will stay independent for long.

I'm not sure there is a place for a generic content company. After all, there are plenty of specialist sites where you could always get more info than on AOL.

For example, if I want world news, I find BBC & Skay good. imdb for film news, Slashdot, Register & Inquirer for techy stuff - the list goes on and on, so what value to AOL bring?

At least it proves that US management is every bit as good as the home groan variety.

Who were the music execs that turned down Eva Cassidy in favour of spending more time killing Napster?
