I have spent over 10 hours in the past week, trying to talk to an AOL techie staff member who might know what they are doing.
My problem is that when I log onto AOL reading my emails and going into chat rooms the system is fine. There has been no degradation in access speed for these at all. However, If I try and access any web pages, then it may take up to 10 minutes for the web page to be fully displayed on screen.
I have spoken to their technical staff (laugh) who have all tried to get me to reconfigure my firewall, reload my device drivers, reinstall AOL and even reinstall my op-sys (the latter 2 I absolutely declined to do). My system hasn't changed in the last 2 weeks, so it can't be that causing the problem. If I attempt to open the same web page in IE, its there instantly. I did however get one person to tell me that there was a problem with their servers and that my computer MUST be reconfigured to enable me to get round the problem.
I have heard rumours that AOL are deliberatley downgrading web access for those who have (expensive for what it is) dial-up access, but use another broadband supplier to gain access to their AOL account and once in AOL bowse the web.... anyone else heard this?
I have been promisd call-backs by their staff on numerous occasions, but none have appeared.
Here's a good laugh for you all... a couple of days ago I received a customer satisfaction email from AOL as I had recently requested assistance. To fll in the survey I had to click on a link which... yes... opened up a web page. After 5 minutes the server timed out the attempted access to the customer satisfaction survey... Hey maybe that's how they get good customer survey results. No survey responses = <irony>satisfied customer = everybody happy </irony>
I don't know what all the cost of being on the line to them for this amount of time will be.
Has anyone else got the same (or similar) problems?
Does anyone have any solution? (maybe I should find another ISP?)
