Apple users, please help!

I recently upgraded my EE Plusnet migration sim to an unlimited essentials sim.

It has the soft speed limiter, unfortunately, but for the price and roaming it will do me.

My iPhone is running IOS 18.1.

Now I know EE are probably the worst for ‘fake 5G’ where the phone indicates NR but it’s actually on LTE but in field test mode, I never see an NR bearer. It’s always LTE. The phone indicates 5G. NPerf says 5G NSA.

I know I am in a 5G coverage area and my speedtests bounce off the soft limiter at around 140Mbps.

I am on an eSIM so sticking it in my Android phone is a bit of a faff.

Can any other iOS users on IOS 18 confirm are you seeing NR on EE in field test mode?

You sometimes need to wait up to a minute viewing FTM for the NR carrier to show up. It can help if you force Voice & Data to 5G On in my experience.

I’m on an EE Full Works plan with 5G SA, etc., and initially I would see FTM report SA. However, since a recent update, I now only ever see 4G reported now. Although, I think I may have seen 5G there a couple of weeks ago after I kept FTM open for ages.

I wonder if there is an issue with iOS 18.1 then?

I have tried changing from auto to on.

Doesn’t seem to make a difference.

I have this same issue I see 5G 90% off the time when I'm out and about, despite knowing I'm not on 5G.

Weirdly I get NR details for Smarty but not EE.

Same when I am roaming too on EE. No NR details at all.

It's no better on iOS 18.2 Beta 4

Though I've noticed I'm seeing '5G' almost always when I'm connected to band 20 these days. So must be N28 around me - but I just can't see it lol.
