Area Going Live Soon (GU14 - Farnborough) - possibly by August 2023

following in the format of the other post.

Anyone know when to expect Toob in Farnborough?

would like to ditch VM over the recent price rise.

F&W seem to be over building toob and VM are also throwing cabs up.

random post code:: GU14 6DL

As it's im build state, could take up to 6 months or longer, as for me they hit a problems so has pushed it longer, asking them they will just give the normal responce 'it will take 6 months or more', they can't really give a 100% confirm date. fact they sent someone startish of Fed and said it would be going live near end or start of March and we are now in May is kinda laughable poor pr stunt imo

they've been installing in farnborough for what feels like forever but at least a year.

the linked Surrey live article states a farnborough resident complaining about poles in June 22.

I just want to phone up vm and tell them to shove it but can't until toob indicate when they are abler to go live.

I'm assuming now it'll be this time next year!!

and I guess it'll be the same with F&W.

annoyingly we are in a 5G non spot with areas around us getting it.

Really odd.

Have you called Toob?
They should give you an estimated date to launch.
When I called a few weeks back they told me August is our planned order date in Gosport.
The Toob van guys walking the streets testing last and this week said the same when I asked them a few days ago with end testing going fine and August launch looks to be on.

Welcome to the wait!

Have you checked https://bidb.uk/? That should tell you if work is still ongoing in your area, the other thing you can do is take a walk around those areas and see what they are doing, e.g trenching and installing poles and cabinets etc, these will all need following on work with tubes laid between them, fibre blown and testing. Do the poles in your local area have terminals at the top ( there are pictures on another thread here) or is the toob cable just coiled up?

Unfortunately all of the above is true of my area, and my street had the cabinets and tubes installed in September and November last year. Social media is full of comments from people in the same boat, some have waited 2 years with little progress and still no idea on a live date. You can try phoning them, but in my case I was told end April after being told end March.

Also don’t rely on their map, it’s so out of date and reflects the chaos of their build activity. Yately went live 12 May, it still shows up as in build 10 days later.

similar, here, they have been doing stuff since at least 1st half 2022.

trenches dug & filled, cabs installed, fibre coiled on posts & now they've largely moved on to other areas in the town.

F&W contractors STL are in the area now too & doing largely the same in the same places, I had assumed they where doing the final fibre connectivity for toob but its overbuild.

I had hoped that the toob location map was a rough indication of where was going live next, but no.

I included a link to bid & a random postcode earlier. bid no longer details what each job is but one.network has a little more detail.

the unknown interdiction zone isn't stopping roadworks etc.

Aldershot have Toob available but only in small areas & they are still building out

The toob locations have been updated

yately is now taking orders,
being built maps for Farnborough and Aldershot show more areas in red.

Just seen this come up… have you tried your postcode? Ignore the map it takes them a few weeks to update.

Sounds for that screenshot like Farnborough is the next to go live for that.
Nothing on their website. I do not use or look at any social media like that.

Toob certainly spreading themselves across the South.
Always wondered is all their town/city areas spread apart link together by a big backend link or are they separate networks?

It’s almost negligible to get dwdm’s from a point of presence to an internet exchange could be ~£1k a month which would be 40 subscribers. 10GB ports in an internet exchange are ~£100 a month.

so 50 subscribers a month would cover backhaul to an internet exchange Per town.

toob build their own pop’s I think the 1 in Farnborough is in the station car park.

Got home today to find a toob flyer on the doormat. The telegraph pole that arrived in March has fibre coiled on it. I registered last year, and I'm within the puple shaded area in the map included in the post above, and checking today the website hasn't changed.

I'm also in a 5G not-spot, and currently with VM but their network is worn out here (1991 cabinets full of rust) so intermittent connections. Looking to move !

Looks as if I could possibly order from Hey! now as well, but at £43/month after min term period compared to £29 with toob, I’m hanging on for toob. I’m still in the “in build” area but quite close to the lower right “taking orders” blocks. I think that block covering the Tech (boundary road) must have only changed colour today…?

From Thinkbroadband forums, I’m pretty sure Hey! is also CGNAT, but not clear if they do IPv6. I might be okay with CGNAT on v4, if I get fully routable v6, which I believe toob supply.

As I’m in a flat, I’m expecting pain from any FTTP provider and my building owner.

They hey site is abysmal but it is possible to bag the 99p then £29 deal.

i too have been holding out for toob, but unless they can show my area, which is just a little north of boundary road, then i may be heading to Hey!

if hey also allow wholesale on their network then I may look to the likes of sky and see if I can leverage a multi deal, would be hilarious if virgin was available too but they’ve had enough of my money over the years.

I’m not a fan of the Borg aka Vodafone but would shower them with my cash if I got to leave virgin.
