Area Going Live Soon (SO19 - Sholing) - Having Doubts

Awesome 👏🏻

You knew it would be something simple like that. I am interested to see how things progress as ISP’s rollout faster speeds, our 1Gbe network cards, switches and potentially cable will become the bottle neck, if you want full speed to a single device.

2.5Gbe switching is very pricey still, my Router has a 2.5Gbe WAN port but only 1Gbe LAN, like your PC I only have 1Gbe built into the motherboard with little expansion options (mini-itx).

Had an email from Toob giving notice of a service outage next week (Sholing, Southampton area):
We're carrying out overnight network maintenance next week, which could impact your broadband connection for a limited time.

You may notice an interruption to your service between 2am and 5am on Wednesday 27th September. Any impact to your service will last no longer than 30 minutes.

Proactive maintenance is essential to ensure the future reliability of our service and has been scheduled to minimise disruption for the majority of customers. We do appreciate this could still cause some frustration.

Your service should resume automatically without any further action required. If this doesn't happen, please restart your toob wi-fi router by powering down for a few seconds (and switching it back on again).

Should you experience any issues after this time, please visit our online support information at toob.co.uk/support or call us on 023 9300 9300. Our opening times can be found at toob.co.uk/contact-us.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

Kind regards,
Team toob
Good that they're letting folk know before it happens! Hopefully I should be tucked up in bed at that time.

4 months on and still no sign of work or able to sign up, i saw work being done across road on path near outside Hightown Towers.

Ash I've just cancelled my mums Toob sub and signed her up to the Three £6/mo unlimited business plan SIM with external MC7010 CPE.

Although cheap enough at £25/mo Toob was overkill for her needs and she gets 500Mb+ on Three. I know you're near a tower, may be worth trying an MC7010 if you're getting impatient with Toob.

I gave up with three as issues, but i did look a few months ago, but can't even order 5g with three anymore lol they said area is over subscribed hence why i can't order it, i'm on vm social package atm 50/5 at 20 a month, having toobs speed for gaming etc would be nice but they taking the pea atm, so called people objected to having poles up but first of heard about it.

Ah fair enough. There's a voda5g tower slightly closer to you (near the Three one) and TalkMobile do an unlimited package for £16/month. If you wanted to try it give us a shout as I have an MC7010 you could experiment with.

Looks like the poles outside yours are for mains electrical and perhaps they then decided it would be too dangerous to install their own so are going underground instead. I noticed the other day driving past yours that one of the poles on the end terrace had a Toob manifold but again I assume the distance would be too far for them to have strung a cable to your house.

Yeah possible, I mean it's good that actually done something now, now waiting to see how long till its active. I did email but same response saying they looking for other ways, but I don't think they were told they were doing what has hapeened

Guess i'm not going to see anything soon... which i don't understand as there is a cabinet less than 100m away, and they dug up in front of house...

So they installed ducts all the way along the path? I assume it runs to the green cab near the BP garage end? Which is live network. How have they left the sweeping T joint outside your house? Just reinstated it?

Altnets in general have been stopping rollouts and focusing on increasing uptake, seems like they did half the work already, no ROI on empty ducts which seems like a waste. I wonder if they are deploying anything behind Aldi for that new 130+ housing development, probably let BT pick up the bill and PIA their ducts.

Openreach have announced Southampton so they are coming, you would expect by 2026, although that’s some wait and it’s only GPON so upload will be poor in comparison to Toob.

Green cabinet is by the pole across from glass shop on the row of houses, the T joint goes to front of house with a toob black cover thing can't remember name, I'm on Virgin Media atm 50mbps but getting random packet loss due to area or network issue and only adsl 12meg which is useless for 2 with me gaming, and that green cabinet on corner next to BP is a Virgin Media one.

So it runs to a Toby box, yes your right the Toob cabs the BP end are down Coates Road.

I don’t understand the logic in putting the ducts in and then stopping, they literally just have to put microducts in and blow some fibre, might need another cab next to one that’s already there if capacity is an issue.

Just an idea but could you drum up interest with your neighbours, and write to the CEO to take another look, you have live network behind, in front, to the side and half the work is done already.

I checked Openreach for you, unfortunately no planned date as yet, just listed as future build.

I've uploaded an image, this what was done a few months ago, red circle is toob cabinet, and green line is where they put duct to each house. When the cabinet was put in, i did notice a cable dangling from the pole next to it, and taped to it, after a week or something that cable disappeared.

Openreach website now say's now and 2026.

@Gunny Just find something interesting, that cabinet that's outside glass shop (or what was some hardware DIY shop now) can order, 4 addresses up from it can order, but the rest can not order, so that cabinet across from shop must be active now and taking orders

@AshOnFire1989 and you have duct to your door from that can, so I don’t understand why you cannot order?

I ended up rodding my duct back to underground BT chamber and left a draw string there, the install team then just had to pull a micro duct through and blow the fibre down the drop, that’s all they will do to get the service to your house/toby box.
