Area Going Live Soon (SO19 - Sholing) - Having Doubts

They used to do social media posts when new areas went live, last one was for Blackwater, Guildford on 3rd February and for Southampton it was 14th November, there are still large parts of Southampton east in pink, so will probably take several updates before it’s all live, being on the outer edge I expect to be one of the last announcements.

I wonder how much capacity on the install side they have, if large swathes go live at the same time there could be some long lead times, previous go live announcements tend to be a collection of several streets. I wouldn’t be surprised if they stage areas over a number of weeks to manage install capacity.

To be honest them sending people around knocking on door claiming to be going live in about a months time, which they did to me, is kind of misleading, as its been over a month now I'm pretty sure and still not gone live, I did this post on day the knocked, and that was on 6th of February

They knocked on my door on the 8th February, it does seem silly to do it so early , I get there can be delays but surely a build gets to X percentage complete and they have confidence it will go live by a certain date. 2-4 weeks before this date would surely be the sweet spot for marketing teams to canvass an area.

My money is on late April or early May, given the planned works still going on.

On a walk into town yesterday.
Did notice here all our E1 and E2 local buses have a new Toob poster ad on their rear end.
Also saw a few QST guys walking around with handheld equipment, touching and lifting all the Openreach and new Toob manholes on many of our local streets. Some were actually poking in the manholes too.
Getting close here me thinks...

In Gosport, notice from first week of April that Toob will be building quite a way outside the current In build area, about 3/4 mile from the edge of the in build area they have been building since October.
The map still shows these new areas as In design.

I had to renew my Sky TV, as it goes out of Contract in May.
Did not renew the Sky broadband for another 18 months, that is up £3 a month out of contract from mid May (not as high as I thought it would). Hopefully can sign up to Toob by then and save about £8.

The map is definitely a bit behind the curve. I think the key things to look out for are:

1) Visible street furniture (poles, cabinets etc)
2) Laying of fibre tubes
3) Marketing team canvassing your area
4) Testing infrastructure, works in local cabinet, blowing through the fibre tubes with compressors.

If you’re seeing all the above I can’t think it’s far away, unless there is some problems detected.

Here is a review of the service from someone in Surrey which might be of interest.

Yes to all above as I've mentioned in other posts in the Street furniture thread on here.
We will not get Marketing Canvas teams as all our streets around here are ' no cold call zones' and signposted thus. That has worked perfectly over many years we have had it.

Might also be worth calling Toob customer services, explain your out of contract and they might be able to tell you a date.

I just called them again, for SO19 6 area they mentioned 20th April, which would align to after the planned works currently scheduled in the area.

I just had to walk to Post Office, and had a look at what was going on with everything, poles by me are wired up but dangling off them near me, I guess they ain't no where even finished here yet, prob be bother couple of months 🫤

Strange to leave it so unfinished yet they are expanding into so many other towns. I believe Thornhill was cabled up well over a year ago now and that area is still not live, can’t be cheap committing the hardware, paying for labour to get areas 90% complete and then spend months on the final part, could understand if it’s a small area with issues but we are talking large areas on the East side of the city still not live. They earn no revenue from their investment until people can order the service.
When I consider my area and cumulative work done to date, it’s probably about one days effort for 2 guys since September 2022.

From top of my head, those cables have been hanging on them poles for around 2-3 months.
Makes no sense, especially when they have knocked on your door to tell you the service will be live ‘soon’ and they are in other areas smashing through build. Can only imagine it’s a PR game, we are now live in Portsmouth, Fareham, Gosport etc where as Southampton went live years ago for the first couple of postcodes.

It is not yet live in Gosport.
As for Fareham that went live a month or so back, its only to a very small handful of streets in North Fareham and Wallington. I know a few people in both those areas that are on the live map, but cannot order yet and are being told to wait.

Notice overnight the Gosport map had a large addition to the North East of the original map that is now shown as in build. They have just started to build there I noticed last week.
Also quite a large area has moved to In build to the Western part of Fareham.
The map for Gosport will change later this Month as the Southern parts all now have planned work at the end of the month to start on one network and bidb.

On our bidb in Fareham and Gosport, we get quite a detailed description of the works, like 'build a box', '30m of cable in the footway', 'install a telegraph pole' ' blockage clearance' 'excavation', but notice that Southampton it just says 'no description'

What I mean is they seem to rush to get a handful of streets in a new area live, in a month or so that central area of Gosport will be live, queue fan fair and PR ‘Toob now live in Gosport’ the reality of course, will be only a few streets, the suburbs and outer areas will be painfully slow like everywhere else. It’s just an odd logic to smash through build to get a postcode live, whilst seemingly coasting in other areas where build has been dragging in some cases over a year.

Nothing against Gosport but it was only announced on 13th October 2022 that they were expanding into that area, it was 2019 for Southampton, the area Ash and I are in has been in build since Summer 2022, yet my money is on Gosport going live before, just so Toob can claim a PR victory.

Keeping my fingers crossed :)

I also do wonder how they choose their areas.
Maybe the postcode take up online and like you said they knock on doors a while before any live date.
We had 'coming soon' cards through the door back in October and again in November, so maybe the takeup from that redirected to website or any knocking on doors shows them more interest in one street than another, for which ones go first.

Did anyone hear of the ISP Bethere back in the day? (I know this off slightly off topic) but I was looking to setup a toobusergroup up.. like bethere had back in the day 'beusergroup' just so people could join and help other users out etc eg if what wanted to user there own router or something

I was on bethere for a few years, left in 2009. I had Pipex before that.
At that time I ran with two lines.
Been on Sky broadband for 15+ years.

Why not direct people on here, seems to work quite well on here.
Be nice if Toob themselves could not have their own forum and let their own customers help other customers in the forum and maybe do some moderation.

ATM, I have domain, setup a wiki page, in process setting Discord up. It was more of a place to hang out share ideas, help users stuff like that.

Edit:

I could do a forum on the website too, just so it's all in one place, if you have any ideas, i'm up to making this work.
