Area Going Live Soon (SO19 - Sholing) - Having Doubts

Not used discord for anything, but have seen it.
Sounds probably a good modern way to get a community chat going.
Be honest, think the more traditional forums are these days a lot of trouble to keep updated and maintained.

So most of the planned work in SO19 is now completed over the Easter half term, hopefully some of the area starts to go live imminently, last update I had was around 20th April. I took a stroll round the local area to see any obvious signs of things left to do, I did find a number of poles with cables tied up, I expect these need to be terminated on the pole into a connector, then individual orders will trigger distribution from the pole to the property.

This area also had a few new poles with no infrastructure attached. The area has had complaints about poles, but this was in streets further away that had underground BT services and Toob came and put poles up.

Is that still the case? Only 2 days then for you to get signed up...
It’s certainly the last they told me when I called them at the end of March, I am not convinced it’s ready yet, but equally not sure what is left to do. I am on the outer edge (blue mark) of the map so expect to be last.

Move that blue 1cm along the road you'll find me :ROFLMAO:

Some more works added to the southern area of Sholing with a date end May early June.

Now the 20th and nothing updated today
Yep, it’s massively frustrating I think the lack of communication or clarity is really poor and surely not that hard to address. They made the effort to send people to our doors nearly 3 months ago now, saying it’s a month away, I don’t get why they do that if it’s not going to be ready? In fact the whole East side of there map has not changed really in 3-4 months.

So true.

Another Sholing resident here, waiting for Toob to arrive! I'm closer to Weston than Hightown. Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult for them where I am, as it's all overhead poles on Openreach's network here. Whilst I'm close to a cabinet and get the full 80/20 VDSL connection right now, I still want more especially working from home 4 days a week.

My mum already has Toob in Woolston. She was previously on a 10 meg ADSL exchange only line so it's been fantastic for her. As I'm her personal IT support man, it makes remote desktop support so much quicker too. On her connection, we opted for a static IP which is worth it, despite the cost (remote CCTV access etc).

Any dealing with Toob customer services has been a positive experience too and they do honor their "refer a friend" with £25 amazon cards each (she's been busy talking to the neighbours about it!)

Welcome to the wait 😁

The area between Weston and Sholing has some advanced planning works on Wrights Hill, this is right of the boundary of where the service is active and not active. Unfortunately these works are not until 30th May so I think it’s unlikely that that area goes live before then, what that means for the rest of Sholing, Hightown and Thornhill areas only Toob know.
It’s a large area they are building in, hopefully not waiting for this whole area to be complete before going live.

Heard lots of good things about Toob regarding their customer service, have you had a knock on the door from the marketing team? And/or a coming soon leaflet yet?

No knocks at the door or leaflets yet for me.

Last year a leaflet arrived at mums house in Woolston about a month before go live. The day they were door knocking was the day they were starting to accept orders and install was 8 days later I seem to recall.

The wait isn't such a bad thing as I have yet to get around to pulling some steel kopex flexi conduit under the floorboards with a draw wire in it, ready for them to pull the fibre thru to exactly where I want it. Steel kopex as there's been an occasional rodent under there and an alarm cable was chomped through last year. The joys of a 124 year old house with shared cavity walls!

And the reply i got @Gunny so your prob on the same boat i am on with them as your only like 100-200m down the road from me

Still no cold hard reasons, just if, buts and maybe’s, given the amount of build it’s surely not difficult to work out when the area will be able to go live. There is more to this than they let on over social media.

Havant and Portsmouth areas that are live are simply using Cityfibre’s infrastructure, with Toob retailing their service. Screams to me as though the capital investment money is not going as far, maybe inflation hurting the build costs?
