Area Going Live Soon (SO19 - Sholing) - Having Doubts

Sponsored Links
More toob work popped up on Botley Road, days work on 22nd May

Good spot, looks like it’s the junction of Killarney Close, at Easter they have installed trenches along the foot path, a new Openreach chamber and a new pole, given it’s just a day maybe it’s to install tubes?

There is also 2 weeks of work starting on Wrights Hill, they were previously here this year as well.

My hope is they are being the live network from the area of Sholing that’s live, straight up Botley road to you and I…. Wishful thinking? 😆

I still think they need to blow fibre, connect it all up and test it, the wait continues.

So at the end of last month I did call Toob and they estimated end of June/Start of July for my address to go live (I'm close'ish to Weston lane). Today a leaflet from Toob comes through the door which says they are "coming soon"....
Of course, if there's a technical hitch it could be a while yet, but I have a hopeful feeling that their estimate of Start of July could actually materialise.

If any of you are in need of a referral so we both get an Amazon voucher, PM me when you order ;-)

We had the Marketing team knock and the coming soon leaflet in early February in Hightown and Sholing, I read some people had them knock a year ago and are still not live. 😬

Nexus Fibre Solutions are working in my area today, this type of work does not show on BIDB because it does not require street works permit, some of their vans are just marked Highways Maintenance so not obvious it’s them. It’s lovely weather for blowing some fibre and making cabinets live.

I still think we got a few months to go till its live, than weeks

This might explain some of the go slow, I suspected inflation, unplanned issues and slow take up had slowed things down. Hopefully now with an injection of capital they can accelerate the areas already started, note the comment on organic and consolidated expansion, to me this suggests they will focus on filling in the gaps and expanding into areas close to the existing network.

After the work this week by Nexus Fibre solutions I noticed my local cabinet has a ID plate attached. Anyone else noticed these before?

When they were doing the start of the build in Gosport with the Toob pavement covered boxes and adding the green box street furniture back in November 2022, all the green boxes had their black id plates added a few weeks later.
They did the same a few months back for the newer build areas in Gosport.
As well as the id name plates ours also have a black plate with something like 'Property of Toob with a phone number to call in cases of emergency'.

Well I had a quick look around the local area as it’s difficult to see what’s been done when everything is underground or in a cabinet near me. It seems like they are now finally terminating those coiled up cables, all the poles they are using now look like the picture below.

We had a couple of poles wrapped at the bottom of the pole like that.

When all our poles and dp pole boxes were connected up in March/April, all that strapping was removed by the third party teams and the poles placed in the correct position up the pole.

And also parts of Thornhill by the looks of it, hopefully that recent work means our streets are next.

The streets near you that are live, did they start build at roughly the same time as your street?

Not sure, there no cab or pole up near me, nearest cab to me is like 200m ish away from me on Coates Road so i have no idea if i would be connect to that or what, as my road i seen no construction at all, image i've attached red dot nearest cab and black dot is roughly were i am, i'm pretty sure there's a pole across the road from the cab too, not really looked at it, i know it was recently put up i think

Google Street View is your friend here, looks like your road has two cabs on the corner and you can even see the subbies working. Looks like they have trenched new ducts and chambers down your street. They will use these to run a drop link from the cab to your property, using the duct your BT copper lines uses.

Our BT lines come from the pole outside our house and connected to a cab near Botley Road, last time i had an engineer out for it. also that work on google map was when they were doing gas work, there no chambers only one outside on pic you posted, only trench going up the road to corner of Bursledon road

Ok does the BT pole have a Toob connector box on it, your drop link would come from the pole to your house if it does.

Box looks like this but should be at the top of the pole, alternatively you might just have some cable coiled up because they haven’t fitted the box yet.
