Area Going Live Soon (SO19 - Sholing) - Having Doubts

So having been told 4-6 weeks to wait for a civil team to come sort out the duct, I decided to sort the problem myself with the help of the groundsman who did my drive, the duct was about 50mm under the drive and was discovered by a JCB when the drive way was dug up, it was re-buried but obviously got disturbed.

Managed to locate where we thought the issue was and clear it of mud and stones and rod through into the ground chamber, whilst we were there we pulled a rope through as well so Toob’s install team would have a slightly easier job.

Now you think Toob would be happy I saved them a job, well it seems that they still want to wait for the civil team to come out 🤦🏻‍♂️. Had a few discussions with them this week and told them the Civil team is no longer required, but they seem to want to follow process. Going live is only half the battle it seems.

Two of my neighbours also ordered and both have blocked ducts as well, so not having much success here.

If you think its gonna drag on personally I think I'd try cancelling, wait a day and reorder. I don't think their system will be clever enough to know about the civils issue and you'll know if you're given the opportunity to pick an install date when you reorder.

Oh dear.
Sounds an annoying delay.
Not sure Openreach though will be happy if you play about with their ducts.
So, once watching out for Toob and Fibre builds, your now watching out for Openreach.
Hope you get it sorted soon. I would keep chasing Toob on when.

So Toob have sent their rod and rope guy back, he just took a photo of the rope and got back in his van, hopefully that’s him happy then. I will give them until tomorrow to give me a new install date, failing that I might then try the cancel approach.

Yeh you’re right about the ducts, although BT only buried them 50mm deep, by their own standards they should be 350mm deep, so it was always going to be found at some point.

Imagine Openreach will be round at some point to pull fibre through to replace the copper, they will have no problem doing that now so all should be good.

So I checked gf flat even though Weston is showing available her flat isn't, guess council hasn't giving permission or working on plans to get them connected

So I checked gf flat even though eston is showing available her flat isn't, guess council hasn't giving permission or working on plans to get them connected, though VM is available to it. Fttc is up to 80mbps

Similar situation with my brother. His area went live over a year ago but the management company won't let anyone install fibre. He's surrounded by VM, BT FTTP and Toob (literally on the poles outside) but none are available to him so he was struggling on 9mb ADSL. His cab was never enabled for FTTC and there are no plans to.

I mounted an outdoor 5G router and to his flat (wasn't allowed to but sod them) and he now gets 100Mb with Voxi though it can be intermittent.

Toob called me today to say after a thorough inspection of the duct (10 second photo) it’s now cleared and roped, no **** Sherlock I told you that a week ago 😂.

Anyway install booked for 20th July (earliest they had), annoyingly the web portal still shows my old date and the change install button is greyed out.

Now I don’t want to count my chickens just yet, but Toob gave me a cancelled appointment for tomorrow (7th July). The duct is roped and ready to go and they have called and gone through the pre install checks ( Permission for drilling a small hole, someone over 18, power outlets etc).

Gf had leaflet in post in Tower block in Weston, saying that she can order hyperoptic 1GB/s
Is she going to order it? If the Tower block is council owned my understanding was the council issued Toob with a way leave agreement but they still need to bring the service into the buildings which they put an 18 month timeframe on.

Not a clue, she's with sky and needs to cancel or transfer as dunno if she's in contract, there is recent tarmac to block so might be hyperoptic

Toob came today to bring the fibre through the duct and to the house ahead of install tomorrow. Failing any disasters we are looking good for a live connection tomorrow.

Holy mother of god.... this is via ethernet directly into my UDM-SE. Quite a jump from 300/45 g.fast.

Also for anyone in the southern part of Sholing (Botely road) I saw Nexus testing the cabinets yesterday, I reckon that will be ready for service shortly.

More bandwidth than you know what to do with!

I can see Toob are due to do some works at the bottom of Butts Road... on a Saturday (tomorrow)! Probably getting fibre to the poles all up that road most likely. Edging ever closer! Need to pull some kopex under the floorboards with a drawstring in it, ready to pull fibre thru to exactly where I want it in the house. Better get onto that this weekend!
