AVG Updates

Anyone else noticed that ver 8 has not had an update in over a week??
Nothing listed to manually download either BUT ver 7.5 HJAS get updates for today and yesterday; have they cocked-up??

The new 7.5 update is accepted as valid by ver 8, so I suspect they have posted it in the wrong section.

What DB version do you have?

Mine is 270.10.18/1936 on AVG version 8.0.233. Last update was today (although whether than means the last time it got a new update or just the last time it checked I don't know).

Auto updates have worked fine (AFAIK for the last few days).

270.10.18/1905 apparently on version 8.0.176

As I have manually downloaded every available update I cannot understand why you have higher version numbers, you have free or paid version??

OK, just found ver 8.0.233 is the version currently available if you go to the "Download AVG" page, but ver .175 is still the highest version number on the "Updates" page.

AND the DB updates for the 4th and 5th have disappeared from ver 7.5 page!!!!

Installed .233 and it "found" a load of updates, so I now have DB ver 270.10.18/1937.

But why had the latest version not auto-updated on my machine?? and has anyone missed out and not noticed the problem??

AVG is a great program, but the continuing problems with fcuked updates is becoming a chore.

l have the paid version, granted l noticed a week of inactivity on updates but they have updated twice in the past couple of days, my virus database version is 270.10.19/1938 AVG itself is version 8.0.233 (l have the internet security version)

Just reinstalled AVG this week on a couple of other systems so they're both on 8.0.233, updating as normal. Not tried my laptop though, which still has an earlier v8.

Mine has updated today to the same spec. Timeless, but the constant glitches are not reassuring.

I also noticed that Rootkit coverage has been disabled as well, despite them trumpeting it's inclusion when ver. 8 was launched.

still fine for me, its been doing its job as normal

Is it just me, or has a recent update of AVG changed the font of the email scanner's notification box, and also changed some spellings within AVG itself - AntiiVirus, AntiiSpyware, and Eimail Scanner ... they really seem to like using 'i' on my AVG...

Fine on mine, perhaps your font folder has been corrupted; the "i" you are seeing should be a "-".
Have you noticed any problems with other programs??

no, i haven't noticed any other problems elsewhere - i guess maybe a re-install might fix it, or replacing that font with a new copy ... unless it's something to do with Vista . . .

PLEASE!! THINK OF THE CHILDREN

And do not mention the "V" word again!!!!

actually, l hate vista too :p to be honest Vista is the next generation version of Windows ME they could have done a whole lot better but they decided to make a new generation problem system XD

while it might be more supported and more stable than it was there are still many problems which dont make it feasible for me to consider myself (including the price) now while l havent personally touched Windows 7 betas my friend (and fellow hardware guy and best mate) has a beta copy and has had allot of good things to say about it and hopes MS will continue to take it in the right direction... so in retrospect Vista can be binned if the new version of windows actually does what it says on the box... (in so many words, it actually works properly)

as for the problem, have you changed the language settings? if its working fine l wouldnt mess around too much, tho if you have to l would suggest running the repair process on it however l tend to find if a system has been installed for a while its not advisable to remove the virus scanner if there is a problem.. l did that recently and not long after l was forced to reinstall my system because the resident shield decided it didnt like me any more.

Vista is SO wonderful that even M$ admits that less than 9% of business users have it installed, and that is down from the 10% it was a year ago!!!

And timeless, stop running down Win98 ME, it was at least stable and supported USB correctly, I ran it on the children's computers for several years without a single crash.

eh you cant be serious about windows 98... granted when l was using it, it was stable and did the job... however, looking back l wonder what was so great about it.. its memory management was abysmal and there was and still is no way in hell l could leave it for a whole month without restarting without running into a blue screen....

XP however at least for myself at this moment in time l have an uptime of 32days, 9hours, and 15mins and altho it is starting to feel sluggish lve not has any blue screen errors and nothing major is hindering my usage... 98 was good in its time but that has long past us.

(as for vista, that 10% statistic is that of those users who bought a new computer and had been forced to use Vista.. not everyone knows that some places were offering downgrades besides while l personally despise how shops sell new systems [with the latest versions etc] commercially its in their interest because for every licence sold with a computer they get a cut off the profit while also getting the OS copies at wholesale rather than retail prices... it makes sense tho l dislike it)

i'm not saying it was great, just that it did a better job in it's day, than Vista does today; it was stable, compatible with most devices and did what you wanted with minimal problems; the the children's PC's running simple games and educational software, it was perfect.
If it were not for OFSTED approved educational programs insisting on XP, they would still be using ME!!!

BIG Business users have been able to decline Vista on their New PC's for a long time, so I would think that the 9% of big business's using it, were happy to do so, even if their staff were not!!

it seems that the issue fixed itself - i guess with a recent update - thanks for the tips, and i don't really see anything wrong with Vista (it came with a new laptop, so i had little choice)

Can't seem to get AVG to work on the Windows 7 beta now, it's supposed to but refuses to automatically update and I have to do the manual method instead.
