Avoid using Orange as your ISP

Their SMTP server has problem once a week... call to their premium technical support hotline every week, cost at 50p per minute, in order to sort out the problem temporary. Recently, they suggested me to use webmail instead of using outlook, they also said to me that I am not allowed to use microsoft outlook to send emails as it doesn't stated in the terms and conditions, which doesn't make any sense to me.

If I am not on contract with them, I must terminate the service immediately... I have posted a complain letter to them and see what they will reply.

You're not allowed to use Outlook cos it's not in their T&Cs??

So now your ISP wants to tell you what programs you can use!

F*ck that! It's so pathetic it's actually funny!

Indeed, that sounds to me like a technical support chap whom doesn't understand what he's talking about. ISPs can tell you not to use malicious software but unless Outlook causes harm to their networks (*thinks of a few jokes*) then there are no grounds to prevent its use. Likewise, if it's not in their T&C's then his/her argument can go the other way as well because it’s not saying you can't either.

That is just a flat poor excuse from Orange, which I might add has a terrible e-mail reputation right now. I’d be interested to know how their Webmail system works though because usually if your Outlook SMTP doesn’t work then outgoing from Webmail won’t either unless it uses a different SMTP server, as can sometimes be the case.

I'd also suggest trying a different e-mail client just to test, preferably the excellent and free Thunderbird from Mozilla. Sadly your best bet might just be to change ISP.

I love Outlook the same way I love wasps

(KILL ON SIGHT!!)

Orange will say anything to avoid admitting they have a fault; and yes, my sister is still trying to get her fault fixed, 17 months by my count, but she insists it is only 15 months!!

Please read this thread before you go to Orange: http://www.ispreview.co.uk/talk/showthread.php?t=25771

I was onto these people's "tech support" again today to no avail. Once again the imbecile wanted me to disconnect the router and reconnect the modem again, as the router is an "unsupported device". This was despite the thing working fine up until an hour before, and despite it always working fine in the past both with Orange and my other ISP. They offered to send me a link so that I could read as to how to set up my router correctly!

Not only do they dictate what software you use, the also want to dictate the hardware, and they also insist that you use Windows and not Linux.

I absolutely lost it with them. Right now I've no flashing light at all, just nothing. I requested the cancellations number and have now cancelled Orange completely. I basically had to tell the idiot on the other end of the line to STFU with the questions and just cancel it.

They have the worst tech support, customer services and overall standard of service for any company I've ever dealt with. All based in overseas call centres. They had never made any effort to resolve this problem since it first appeared in November 2007.

To top it all I also have to pay for another 30 days notice period for a product that doesn't work! This is despite the fact that I am not tied into any contract with them.

Avoid these incompetents like the plague!
