Bandwidth Speed Test

AnyTime 128 line speed

What kind of line speed are you users of NDO getting with a 128K connection? Test your bandwidth here!

My line speed is usually between 90 and 95 Kbps (without compression, my card doesn't support the kind of Stac compression implemeted on NDO's 128K servers but does support Microsoft Stac on 64K) and rarely goes above 100 Kbps. I consider this to be slow for a 128K connection considering that with NDO's 64K connection I have a line speed of 60 to 62 Kps without compression and up to 70 with Microsoft Stac.

To give a like-for-like comparison with my bandwidth please use the ZDNet UK Bandwidth Speed Test, here. Please also have compression turned off: In DUN untick the Enable software compression box.

Bandwidth Place and PC Pitstop are based in the US and give lower results (Bandwidth Place much lower).

The figures that I posted are from using one of the unmetered numbers. The 0845 128K service seems to run at quite a good speed (around 125K).

I can see that this is a popular thread. Never mind, I'm going outside in the sun to play with my lead ballon.

Craze,

Im connected with NDO at the moment - and just tried the speed test at ZDNet and it said I had a 256k connetion - which given I use ISDN at 128k was a bit odd... So i'm not sure about that one...

That said I normally average downloads of around 7k-7.5k which is very good.

Are you using the NDO proxies (set your proxy as proxy.ndo.com) this seems to boost the speed quite a bit as you don't suffer from the problems of Internet network glitches as you are always downloading from a nice local point which does the buffering for you...

ps - enjoy your balloon :)

As I said try the above links they seem very accurate, only thing which may not be as accurate is the ping test cause of the distance from UK to US.

Thanks lighter. I've tried the NDO proxy but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Which port are you using? 8080?

7-7.5K download sounds like a 64K speed (if that doesn't sound like a contradiction. You know what I mean anyway).
