Battersea Exchange - Anyone else having speed problems?

Hi everyone. Hope you had a nice Christmas.

Quick question: Is anyone here connected to the Battersea exchange in SW London? If so, how have your connection speeds been lately? I've had an abysmal connection for the last 2 days. The official BT speed tester reports 31 kbps - that's right: thirty-one - on a 2meg line.

Unfortunately I am with Prodigy, which obviously means that I cannot reach anyone in their tech support - ever. Having said that, I'm pretty sure the problem isn't with them but with BT, but I'd like to make sure. The exchange status checker shows Battersea as "red". But it's been red for the last couple of months and so far I've always had alright-ish speeds.

If it really is a problem in the exchange, is there anything a mere mortal can do, or do I just have to wait until somebody sorts it out?

Thanks, Chris.

Did you not get an email from them or is this a buisiness account as they have stopped doing residential internet.

We are writing to you with some important news about your broadband connection.
From January 2007 Prodigy will no longer offer brandband to residential
customers. This means that you will need to move you line to another broadband
provider who deals with residential customers.

We thank you for your custom and to help you in moving your broadband to another
provider we have requested BT to generate a migration code for your line which
will speed up the move to another provider with the minimum of disruption.

The migration code is **************

This code will need to be used before the Jan 6th, after this date your line
will be cancelled before your next payment date.

Unfortunately we have had to take this decision because of the current high
wholesale costs associated with providing this service. Again we thank you for
your custom.

Prodigy Networks

Should check if I was you.

Aye, cheers mate. I was aware of that. I wish I had received that email, but nothing so far. I'd leave them in an instant if I could, but as it's impossible to reach them I just have to wait to get that mail.

In the meantime, as I said, I doubt it's actually a problem with Prodigy. The connection itself still works, but unfortunately the speed is down to less than dial-up in 1999 (e.g. loading the BBC web site takes around a minute and a half). I probably just get myself a 56k modem tomorrow and switch to dial-up for the time being.

Still, I'd love to know if others in the area have the same problem?

If you havent had the email you could end up with no internet on the 6th Jan when they shut down the residential network.

The problem will be at the exchange for deffo BT are ment to be doing a upgrade on the 29th.
