Be: The Distance

I've just got my MAC code from Biscit and am totally over the moon as I feel like I've been let out of prison. Now like a convict just released and looking to start a new life.....I want to start my new life with a new ISP!!!

So I was thinking of BE but this whole distance thing has got me slighty wary of actually going for them. I live about 1.6km from my exchange, what kind of speeds would one roughly expect with that? Are there any people out there who already have that service and are roughly about the same distance from their exchange? If the speeds were 8mb or higher I would be happy with that.

Any comments would be appreciated (and yes I'm a noob).

distance to the exchange is irrelevent, what you need is line length of the local loop from you to the exchange, you may stay 1.6KM but your line may be 2KM+ as it travels up n down streets etc..

Best to contact Be to do a line check and they should be able to answer your questions :)

BE - The unknown.

I was with BE for 6 weeks and the whole thing was a nightmare. My line length was 3KM and I never got above 4meg. The real problem was the connection kept on dropping. BE kept changing my profile and I had my wiring replaced but they were unable to resolve my problems. I'm leaving them today and looking at SKY. Don't get me wrong, when BE is working, it is fantastic. However, I've heard of more than a few disgruntled customers expecting fabulous speeds and being very dissapointed. CHECK WITH BE first before signing up is my advice. :)

im with Be on a 2.2Km'ish line.. Synced @

Slight SNR tweak and i can get it over 12Mbit.

Happy so far.. been with them nearly 2 weeks now.
