BeFibre AdTran Router throughput issues

Hi all,
Thought it’s worth posting this here as I know others have had this same issue with BeFibre’s AdTran router.

A friend of mine recently had his FibreHeroes FTTP installed and went with BeFibre’s 900mbps package.

He was having issues where the internet would stop working when he did any large downloads like game updates.

BeFibre seemed to think it was not an issue with their AdTran Router so I decided to do some tests.

Using my parents BeFibre router (I use my own router on my parents connection spoofing the MAC of the BeFibre router)

I was able to replicate the issue on a non BeFibre internet connection performing an Iperf3 test to an internet server the throughput would drop to 0 until you rebooted the router.

This would happen within a few mins of starting the iPerf3 test.

Further I was able to replicate it testing to my own iPerf3 server running on a different VLAN which ruled out ONT/ internet.

I noticed the firmware the router was running was smartos version 11.2.1.1 from July last year.

Reading though the release notes on subsequent relases indicated a number of fixes to issues that may relate to the issue being faced.

I gave my findings to BeFibre who sent a firmware update out to the router this morning updating smartos to 12.0.2.1 and so far this appears to have done the trick.

Since the new firmware I have not been able to replicate the issue either on download or upload.

If anyone else is facing this issue or similar check what version of firmware tbe router is running by logging in to the web gui and it’s on the home page.

If your not on smartos 12.0.2.1 or later ask BeFibre to update your router.

If you are on version 12.0.2.1 or later and still getting the issue let me and BeFibre know.

There is a issue with the old firmware. Put the router underload and the router goes on one . The router all of a sudden won't work correctly some websites won't load and then the router own speed test won't work. Reboot the router and ok for a bit and then does this thing again . Just running a couple of speed test on fast dot com can jam the router . Ring befibre to update firmware sorts the issue out .
Routers are sent out with old firmware which is wrong

Yup that’s what I found during my testing as reported in my OP above.
I can report they are still sending out routers with old firmware to new customers 🤦‍♂️

Hi nsmhd,

I don’t suppose you could send us the file for 12.0.2.1 to save speaking to befibre?

Hi Daniel,
Unfortunately I don’t have the upgrade file myself the only way to get it updated is to speak to BeFibre.

Kind Regards,
Nathan
