Before I invest in a Huawei 5G pro 2 router, are they better alternative?

I can verify that the Three branded NR5103E works with Vodafone. I bought one from Cex and it works with the many different sims I have tried in the pursuit of good speeds/service.
Thanks for that, are you or anyone else here aware if the pro two is always unlocked? If not how much does it normally cost to get it unlocked?

Not all Huawei routers come unlocked. A lot of the ones that were sold earlier on by Three were not only locked to their network but hard locked, meaning there wasn't a way to even use an unlock code on it and made it unusable on other networks.

Basically @pw23 what you will test in your smart phone is what you'll likely get with a router.

In fact, talking about sub-£100 routers, an older second hand 5G phone might qualify as one, you can use usb/ethernet/wifi tethering. so are you suggesting that if I was to put the VXI Sim card in the?h

So are you suggesting there the speed I currently get with the VOXI (Vodafone run) Sim card in my iPhone 15 PLUS (only 15 MBPS), that it would be the same speed as if I put it in the Zyxelc NR5103E?
If so, would you also expect the same speeds in a 4G mobile router, specifically the Vodafone lR219z

I'm starting to think I made a big mistake buying the NR5103E, Which I won yesterday on eBay for £100

very likely.

also maybe wait until the NR5103E actually arrives and test it out first before deciding whether it was a good buy or not for your use case. :)

Yes. Perhaps you'd have more luck with EE or Three.

Yes, roughly..

As I said, try other operators.

Okay, I just plugged in. The New NR5103E but when I connect to it it says there's no Internet access,
Would this suggest that my VXI/Vodafone Sim card won't work in this router?
As on the other 4G route I have which is locked to Vodafone. I can get data, I'll be only 15 MB PS.

Or should I have set it up differently rather than just plug it in and turn it on?

I have followed the user manual and also tried resetting the router twice but still want to load up when I connect to heads. I have no Internet access but it remains connected to it under the Wi-Fi in my iPhone.

Name: Vodafone internet
APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap

Have you checked the APN is correct pw23?
You may have to manually input the correct APN, the router doesn't always get it correct.

After logging in to the UI........

Top right hamburger menu / network setting / broadband / cellular APN tab

Then select the modify icon and input the APN details if they are incorrect and select ok.

Hope that helps. :)

PS I've previously used a VOXI SIM in this router just fine.

I'm
Thank you, but I can't find a way to set these APN settings as I'm still in the first stage of trying to link the modem

I followed the guidelines and installed the app on my iPhone but when I go to scan the QR code, it doesn't work and never scan
So I use the third-party app in order to scan the QR code on the bank of the router, but the URL address doesn't load
:

wifi:S:Three_BBBD;T:WPA;P:C=eLcGPm3A;;

This was the URL from the QR code, any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

When I scan the QR code with the camera I get the above details pw23.

WiFi name and password, and the web ui login details are listed too.
Not sure why you don't have all the details showing.

Are you using the Three 5G Broadband app rather than Zyxel Air app when trying the app?

Get a laptop and a network cable, best way.

Yes, I am using the Zyxel Air app

I don't have a laptop, but I do have an iMac, so I'll use the LAN cable plugged into the router, but how would I set it up this way?
Will it be as simple as plugging it in and then connecting to it over the wire/LAN

Regarding the APN settings, as I can't connect to the router so can log into the UI andso I can't edit any of the settings

Unless something has changed, the Zyxel Air App doesn't work on the three router pw23, you have to use Three 5G Broadband app, which will let you change the APN.

Thanks, I done this but when trying to set it up after the QR code it says the Sim is not ready, so would that suggest that the router is not unlocked?
See screenshot attached

The same VOXI Sim card still works fine in the 4G Vodafone Sim router
I was actually getting 35 MB speeds last night, which surprised me
But now again only seven MB, I guess this will be the volatility I expect with Mobile Broadband

I've never seen that error before pw23, not sure what the cause of that is if you've already activated your VOXI SIM, as I said in another post I've definitely used a VOXI SIM in the router a while back without any problems. 🤷‍♂️

Is the app showing any APN details at all in settings when you select enable manual configuration?

I tried following the guidelines that wee bear laid out above, but I get the following error, see screenshot attached

APN: wap.vodafone.co.uk
Username: wap
Password: wap

I can only upload two photos as time the other two are on the next post

Would you make a difference if I plugged in a yellow LAN ethernet cable to my iMac and set it up that way rather than the iPhone?

So I just plugged the ethernet yellow cable from the 5G router connected to my iMac but there still isn't any Internet so assume I must have needed to it up somehow, please see screenshots

Any tips on doing this? As I can download anything on the iMac as there is no network/Wi-Fi/Internet connected to it.

Before I give up and post this router back to the seller, does anyone know the steps involved in trying to edit the APN using an iMac?
As of on through all of the settings and the Internet network and none of them say APN

Unfortunately, it really does seem that this rout size only for three

Any idea what else I can try before returning?

Thank you

Try a factory reset (Button on the bottom of the unit), take the SIM card out wipe it and put it back in. Go to https://192.168.1.1/, if you can’t use the WiFi, use the LAN cable. And then follow the steps wee bear said. The unit worked fine for me with none three SIM cards, after changing the APN.
