Belkin Heck!!

Hey,
I bought a Belkin router here I have a problem..

When i leave the compoota downloading..it seems to disconnect itself! Going to reconnect, i'm informed that its still connected?! Yet the lil tray icons are not there and nothing works..prior a reboot. I have googled around and it seems fairly common but not how to fix it. I have it set for wireless though im wired in direct via the usb.

'elp :crap:

I've only ever bought one Belkin item, and never again. All belkin's stuff is cheap nasty rubbish rebadged "Belkin". At one time the Belkin name meant something, but not these days.

I use a Belkin router atm. It does have a habit of disconnecting (usually at night...grrr) and then not reconnecting without a hard reset (i.e. power plug out, wait a few seconds, then re-insert).

It used to do this fairly frequently and the case got uncomfortably warm to the touch. I now run it minus the top plastic part of the case. It seems improved, but still does its annoying disconnect thing from time to time.

On another note, I bought a Draytek router to replace it, but found that the data throughput was noticeably less with it than with the Belkin. So for now, I'm happy to put up with the Belkin, even with its faults.

I believe this might be a fault with the router itself, I would recommend actually contacting Belkini as they do offer from what I have heard top level support and other people have had very good service and they should be able to help solve the problem.

Well I have a Belkin router and I have no problems with it yet, you can try going to Connection Type, click Next, and it will take you to the user name ect. at the bottom you see Dial On Demand, make sure is Unticked and on Idle Time put 0(zero), that should stop from disconnecting, if not call Belkin helpline, they are very very helpful. Good luck

I have tried to do as you said..The box was already unchecked, so the idle time did not show up..only a 'time between reconnect attempts' shows? i have set that to 0/zero [edit]-forgot..when i did this..it disconnects instantly!. ..What you think?

I even keep gettin a Dail Up box pop up sometimes..not seen that in the time i been B/Band..12months!!

Unicast...i tend to agree with you (even though my sis has the same router with no troubles!) the damn things only 2 weeks old..i'm thinkin i'll just box it and take it back as faulty goods..and get a different one? i think you recommended me a Netgear in a previous thread.

Grrr!!!

Just in case it hasn't been tried but have you unticked the box "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" within the networking controller properties under power management?

Mate i'll look at anything..if you'll just tell me where to find it ;) It's worth a shot. Looked in Power Options and Device Manager..but cant see how to find what you say..though it is late!

My OS is XP.

Gracias...zzzzz..lol

Goto control Panel
click Network & Internet Connections
click Network Connections
Right-click your Lan Connection
click on Properties
Where it says "Connect Using" click on Configure
Click on tab Power Management
Un-tick Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

I do this on every one of my customers computers, I don't know if it helps but what it suggests doesn't look like it is going to do you any favours.

I have installed quite a few Belkin pre-N Wireless routers & they have been great, especially when the customer has a large house.

Fast but can be dodgy

My advice is to phone the free Belkin Tech Support line and get them to send you a replacement router which they will do because of their lifetime warranty. I had a 7630 whcih was fine for 6 months then the wireless stopped working. I went through the support procedure, sent it back wiht a free RMA label they sent me and two weeks later they sent me a french 7632. That appeared to work but connection was sporadic. In the end after many calls to support they decided that it was incompatible with my ISP "v21" for some reason and decided that I needed a 7633. I had to pay £2.44 to return the 7632 but then three days later I received my 7633 which has been up and running constantly now for about 5 weeks with no problems (fingers crossed).
