u are having a laugh, more like 150 + pings, i m having same problem trying to find an isp that wont charge me 3 fold for being online more than an average user, which is cr*p as it all dpends on what u have to do, if anyone else has suggestions. they'd be gratefully recieved as all my games are being played on 0845 at mo, as costing me a fortune

i get pigs of 30ms with vispa freeserve was 85ms av
best way i found to find a server thats good was to sign up to a couple of decent 0845 isp's
like freeserve, jolt, vispa ect test the ping to the server and this will give u some idea of which server is closest to you and best connection
mine was vispa and get pings of less than 100ms on most gaming servers
but remeber you ping is only as good as the game person hosting and where abouts he is in the world

SO................

Asking a very similar question to the original post.
I play rouge spear on the msn zone regulary at work (isdn on freenetname. but i dont pay the bill!). This is impossible at home on our so called 56k modems (should really be called 37-38 if your lucky modems!), anyway after a lot of research, it seams wether it may or not be good ADSL is not available at my exchange at the moment, i'm under contract with sky, so cable is out of the question, leaving the only alternative to go to an expensive home highway.

This is great but all i want is an unmetered 128k isp that provides a decent connection with good pings.

so who shouls i look at, or do i have no choice but to use btanytime and pay for the extra chanels call charge.

Someone please help, and just give me some facts.

and another thing, the message above mentions using a USB. Is this a bad idea as all i was going to do was to use the usb connection to the highway box?????????????

in answer to ur question yes isdn is good for gaming u dont need 128k for gaming 64k will do
vispa i find one of the best isps to use and i've used a lot in my time,
usb sucks for gaming but good for downloading use an internal card to get better pings :)

I used to to rave about Jolt Anytime. With my Asuscom TA and running WinXP, I'd regularly ping our server ( CS - 195.149.21.25:27025 ) at around 27-35ms using the DOS prompt.

Now, I can't seem to get under 60ms, no matter what ISP I use. I'm cureently signed up to Jolt Anytime, Vispa Anytime and Tiscali Anytime and all give me pings higher than 70ms most of the time.

I haven't changed my system config, so I doubt it's me..... <img src="graemlins/shrug.gif" border="0" alt="[Shrug]" />
