Best Unmetered ADSL ISP?

I have just left Tiscali, and I'm now looking around for a new ISP.

I want to pay less than £25p/m, for 512k.
I don't want to be booted off the connection after a fixed amount of time.
I don't want any messages saying I've used up all my available bandwidth for the month.
I want to be able to access webpages as fast as possible (best latency).

I know most people are looking for this, but what serious suggestions does everyone have?

I was going to go for Pipex but have read lots of "horror" stories about them on this site.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I use NDO, £24.99/month, good speed and no capping or throttling. You only pay the activation fee if you leave in the first 12 months.

Also, you may want to look at PlusNet they are £21.99/month, also with good speed and no capping, but you pay the activation fee up front (£58 for a 12-month contract, £70 for a monthly contract)..

I've used both and would happily recommend both - I have had no problems with either of them.

Others that seem to get good reviews are Eclipse, Vispa and Zen - click (http://www.ispreview.co.uk/review/top10.php) for a list of the best 10 ISPs according to reviews posted by readers of ISPr.

The ones I would avoid are:

Wanadoo, AOL, BT - because they insist on a 12-month contract.
Virgin - there seems to have been a lot of problems with them recently.

Im with eclipse. Expensive initially (activation isnt free), but worth it. They are definatly uncapped, and I havent had any downtime in over a year of having their service.

I know other people on eclipse, and one on NDO. They all say they are great.

Cant remember what I pay a month, but its definatly under £25.

NDO is looking good at the moment.
I have to wait 15 working days for Tiscali to disconnect the line before I can do anything though.

Plusnet Great!

hi,
I am with plusnet, £21.99 for unmetered 512. You can get through on the phone and they answer e-mails. I have 5 computers hooked up, (kids etc) and we have no problems. When we did have a problem it was sorted out fairly easily (line was getting wet and we kept losing our connection).

I am now upgrading to 1mb (kids downloading), £29.99.

There is an activation fee of £50 ish initially, but I am really pleased with them and despite being on the limits of the exchange and being connected for 10 months, I have nothing but praise. We have webspace, front page extensions and CGI whatever that is. I hate the e-mail set up but once outlook was configured, again no problems. Actually when the did have a problem the technical helpline had a recoreded message saying what was wrong and when it would be fixed.
regards
Nicky

I am with pipex and the solo lite 500 that is capped, But they do But Solo 500 unlimited £23.44 free setup and modem. Support is not very good but if you follow the paperwork you will have no problems.

I would say for an ADSL ISP that Plus Net is a fine choice. Good support, good speeds, low cost & shed loads included in the price. Many people have opinions on this but this is my own personal opinion.

Bin with +Net for over a year, recently upgraded to 1MB, only ever had 1 problem which was fixed with 1 phone call. You want a good Isp, Plusnet are the way to go, even other Isp reps recommend them, speaks for itself.

You can get Supanet 1Mb unmetered for only £22.96 per month. An absolute bargain, and it is reported to be fast and stable.

One thing to consider with 1Mbs is that if you are a serious online gamer you could end up with higher pings. This is probably only going to be a real problem for those at the limits of 1Mbs coverage.

Out of interest - why would this be so?

Yes, I have 1Mbps with BTOpenworld, the pings are less than when on 512Kbps. So how can 1Mbps pings be higher, especially with less people on that connection?

If it occurs it will probably only effect those on long lines. 1Mbs needs a higher bandwidth which in turn reduces the SNR. On a long line the data is likely to get a higher error rate result in more data having to be resent

Lol, Ok. Well I am about 100 meters from the exchange :)
