Biscit Joke of the Month

MisterAngry & Flojo - Have either of you posted your email address on any discussion forum? The spammers have software that trawls websites for email addresses. For my sins I have suffered from spam for what seems for ever. I use an excellent spam filter called Mailwasher that flags suspicious email and lets you delete it from the server without having to download it into Outlook Express or whatever email program you use. I use the Pro version but there is also a free version.

Re; Spam

Absolutely not. I'm always very careful about using this particular email address and after 4 years of use, I've had almost no spam via V21 - until 13/10/06.

Having looked at the "properties" of some of this stuff, I think it may prove pretty difficult to block.

My spam emails only started the minute I got access to my emails again with Biscit and this is the only forum I have ever written on and the emails started before I joined this. I also thought I had enough filters in place and never had any problems prior to biscit. There also seems to be a distinct lack of my normal emails. I'm also the only one who uses my computer so no suspect internet sites either!
Also, I discovered that Biscit must have rung me (hooray) on Friday at 1710 as i did 1471. No message and i only know it was them as they rang me a couple of weeks (engineer) ago on my mobile so i have the phone number which is an 0208 number. This must be in response to my recorded letter or possibly from one of my 50 messages or even from one of the messages a solicitor friend left. they didn't ring my mobile so i wait with baited breathe!

And now for something not very different:

Customer Service Update - 20 Nov 2006
V21 Network Status Update

We had minimum downtime on part of the V21 network this afternoon, due to a digital transit link failure. We regret that some customers were unable to send or receive emails during this period. Your Customer Support team resolved this issue within 30minutes

Sincerely

Customer Support

Actually, I had problems that stated this morning. No emails, in fact - no Internet.

Only just been able to get back online at 6 PM.

But lots more strange spam coming in. Much of it from half literate cretins in the US.

I wouldn't be surprised if newsgroup access temorarily disappears next...
..or is taken offline for maintenance and when it reappears the price has doubled and you can only subscribe to the newsgroups Biscit say you can....

That 0845 number that Biscit claims will give you free access using the V21local user name.
I've just checked my BT bill and yes you're right, it's NOT free. Not expensive mind but defiantely not free as they claim.

Spam - with V21 I now get on average 60 a day -so much so that I tried to delete the email address but that option has now gone.
I get stuff to any address that starts with an 'M'
Roll on the 4th of December!

I get no spam at all. I changed my email address 2 years ago when I went on broadband and I only use that personal email for friends and the 2 forums that I work on.

Guess I'm just lucky.

You CAN'T just 'cancel' your card and walk away. The card-issuer bank will expect you to pay them for any debit that appears after the closure, and if you refuse you will have another enemy on your back.

Far better to get the bank on your side by telling them the full truthful story, providing some evidence, too. If it's a credit card, the bank is obliged to reimburse you, after you've shown that you were ripped off.

My bank once recovered £50 for me from a failed 'free' ISP account.

Does anyone know how to contact Biscit ?

I am still trying to contact Biscit.

I was transfered to them from Fast4 and lost my service (dial-up) on 18th October.

I have recently been re-connected but my customer log-in is rejected "ACCESS DENIED: Invalid login details" and they ignore my emails sent to "support@biscit.net".

I have no email or Newsgroups or support.

I realize that I don't rate very highly in their customer ratings, but if they think I won't ultimately sue them I'd like them to know that I'm beginning to look forward to it.

Thanks Mel, tried it but it didn't work.

Also there was no effective service today 28/11/06, no email and the DN server was down all day, but surprise surprise no mention of problems on the system status page.

I've noticed that Biscit are extremely selective reporting problems and down time, ITS CALLED LYING.

I've had almost no V21/Biscit service for two days - aside from a brief period when things worked this afternoon.

I'm am coming to the conclusion that either this company is run by total morons or there is a deliberate hidden agenda to wreck the business.

As you might expect, my latest barrage of emails to Biscit, complaining about the crap service have not been answered!

Don't know anything about EzeeDSL. Any good?

Does anyone have any recommendations for an ISP to replace Biscit?

Are there any affordable half-decent companies out there?

I've been wondering what the Vodaphone package suggested for early next year might be like, with line rental included.

I've come to the conclusion that it's like investing in Unit Trusts - "Past Performance May Not Be A Guide To Future Performance". A "top" ISP can go downhill quickly if it becomes too popular and its infrastructure can't cope. I joined V21 years ago when they were well recommended on ISP Review! I reluctantly joined EzeeDSL to maintain my connection. Their support line is expensive but their speeds seem solid and I can connect & stay connected - none of the problems logging on and random disconnections that V21 had at the end. Email actually works as well. I asked to be transferred from credit card payment to direct debit and it was done in days. There are cheaper offers out there but it's the more expensive ones like Zen that are top of the ratings. My IP connection is to Mailbox's servers and Mailbox's prices for the same package are much more expensive, so I ask myself am I perhaps actually getting good value for what I pay? I can only speak as I find and I'd give them top marks for connection continuity and speed. I'd give them lower marks for customer service but their man Clive promises he's working on that. I'm not happy with the 12 month contract but my bird in the hand (a decent connection now) is more important to me than two in the bush (waiting to get a MAC then finding another ISP that might not be any better anyway). Certainly I don't have that constant worry I had with V21/Biscit over whether I would be able to connect and for how long. Hope this helps.

Best place to find out if Sleezey DSL are any good is to ask in the E7even forum here their ex-customers were the first to suffer the Sleezey experience, so they should provide the most accurate information.

Personally I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole, mind you I wouldn't have touched V21's ADSL offerings in a million years either.

You really need to decide what you want and how much money you are prepared to spend. But here's a few suggestions:-

If you want cheap, reliable, low cost and unlimited and will settle for 1mbps you won't beat AOL's £14.99 broadband silver offer at the moment with a free month + wireless router and you can even get a £29.95 cashback from quidco if you join quidco and sign-up using their link rather than the one above.

If you want quality and are prepared to pay for it try www.zen.co.uk . Idnet appear to be well regarded too.

If you want a genuine short contract with free activation one of the following three might suit (do check the T&C's etc in case my info is out of date)

===
http://freeola.com/ Entanet reseller 3 month contract.

www.freedom2surf.com - can't acces the terms and conditions to check if I'm right without signing-up :hrmph: which to be honest would put me right off, but I believe it used to be a 3 or 6 month contract but you have to pay a fee if you want a mac unless you've been with them longer than a year.

http://www.ace-internet.co.uk/adsl/ I think this was also a 3 month contract without a termination fee but you'd have to check

===

http://www.ukfsn.org/adsl/maxallowance.html Entanet reseller monthly contract. Pay your own activation fee and you seem to be free to leave as and when you want without any hassle or MAC fees or termination fees.

http://broadband.sky.com/ Pretty good value for sky customers especially if you can get a cheap LLU package - checker here http://check.skybroadband.com/

www.bt.com/broadband I think BT is a safe option and there's a quidco discount available on BT too. (And an even better rpoints offer if you were migrating)

www.madasafish.com/cheaper seems quite popular

www.eclipse.net.uk I'm not too sure about Eclipse anymore since they started using Tiscali as a wholesale provider (they seemed to have an excellent reputation in the past). They are pretty cheap though, but I suspect you probably get what you pay for. You can get a cashback if you sign up via rpoints.
