Blocking net access

I have just gone online with NTL broadband, and cannot find a way to prevent my children from going on line when they feel like it. Is there no way I can use a password with IE? Also (this may sound thick) do I have to leave my modem on all the time? It runs very warm. Cheers.

You could always set a power on password so the kids cant even boot the PC without permission - might be a bit drastic, but thats the way it goes.

I am using 98SE withtelewest, and no matter what I do it always asks for a Networking Password, and last time I used that properly - a few years back, as unsecure as it is, if the wrong password went in, OR the cancel button was pressed, the networking features were disabled.

I am sure however if you are using 2000 or XP there is a simple way round it.

If you want to be really drastic you could disable the ethernet card of if its USB connection unplug the USB at the back of the pc.

Or to make things easy buy Netnanny and this will control their access to websites.

Thanks for all your advice, folks! I have just got a Linksys router, so will see if there are any options on that.I have a lot to learn. Cheers.:)
