Blocking Premium 09 Text Messages Voda?

Is it possible to block incoming premium text messages eg the "reverse charge" reason being my wife has been receiving racing tips texts every day for the past 2 weeks, we just took it as spam, but now on the bill been charged a pound a piece!. I know for a fact that we have not subscribed to this service and find it absurd companies can get away with this.
Rang Vodafone and they said its not possible to block premium text sms or get refund on the texts received although I dont believe this for one second.
Can anyone throw light on this to prevent this happening again, or indeed anyway to get a refund from this blatent fraudulant service?
Thanks
We have managed to stop all further messages from this service btw

I've read that only T-mobile will allow you to block reverse charged text messages (although I did once see a post that Virgin might do this under exceptional circumstances).

To get your money back you have to request a refund from the company that robbed you (ridiculous system, isn't it) and if necessary sue them.

Don't forget to file a complaint at www.icstis.org.uk

Thanks for that link, it gave me the info on the company who I have now emailed for a full refund, I also lodged a complaint with the above also.
Great link and thanks for a swift response
FYI the number is 88080

Just to update you, thanks to your site link I contacted the provider who have issued me a 50% refund, and am now battling with vodafone for the remaining as the request for the text service was issued before I even owned the number!...hence texttips claim vodafone must have recycled the number
I know its only £13.50 total but im a man of principles!
Thanks again

I'm curious how they think they can justify only refunding 50%, if they are accepting that you did not agree to receive their "service". If they think Vodafone is at fault then surely it should be for them to seek recompense from voda once they have refunded you?

There's an article on text scams here http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/4208873.stm
Thousands of mobile phone users have been charged up to £1.50 a time for text messages they say they never asked for, a BBC News 24 investigation has discovered.
Some customers may have signed up by mistake but others are the victim of a mobile scam. ...

I would imagine theses companies count on their victims not making a fuss about (or not even noticing) the theft of a relatively small amount of money, but all the £13.50's must add up to a lot of cash. If it ever happens to me, I would be out to get every penny back too.
