Blue rope confusion, help please

Hi, bit of a weird one here. Noticed today outside my door there was a piece of blue rope. Not seen it before and thought it was rubbish blown in so I picked it up and pulled it. The rope got longer and longer as I realised it was coming from a hole under my electric meter. I initially thought it was to do with my meter but my supplier said it sounds like the blue rope BT openreach use to lay fibre. Thing is, I'm not with BT and whatever it is, I've pulled this blue rope out until I thought, ok, best not pull any more. I'm worried I've done something dangerous. I contacted Openreach and they said they can't send an engineer, it's down to me but I'm at a loss as to what to do. After all this I looked at my neighbours door and they have same but it's covered by a circular cover with a tiny piece of blue rope sticking out. I've never noticed it before.

If that’s an Openreach duct, then it is most likely a pull cord used to pull an upcoming fibre cable in. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll be BT; it could be another supplier making use of Openreach’s PIA product.

Best not to touch it anymore, as they’ll need to pull another through if there’s nothing left at the other end!

I just pushed it back in. It's not going to blow up or anything is it?

If they did the job properly it should have been tied to something at both ends so it can't be accidentally pulled out, but if it was not tied at your end then it may not be tied at the other.
