Blueyonder Installation

As a lot of you may have noticed in my signature, I'm getting Blueyonder in just under 3 months time.

I've already seen the process on their website, but I just thought I'd ask for the actual installation process, from the time the engineer arrives at your home, to the time he leaves.

This is just to basically put me in the knowledge of how it will happen on the day.

BTW, there is already a line box into the house, so I assume it would all happen from there, and there would be no need to lay one from the street.

Many thanks for any assistance in advance.

The engineer may or may not need to change your box in the house, or run an extension box, depending on where your wall box is and where you have your computer. Then he will fit your nic card in the computer if you don't have one already installed. He will connect the cable modem and make a phonecall and register your MAC address. A few minutes after this he will leave. I don't think I've missed anything out so it is all very painless and simple.

The laptop (POP) will be upstairs, whereas the Telewest line box is downstairs in the living room.

I'll be using ethernet - will I need to provide any special equipment?

Thanks for your help!

I am right in thinking that my ethernet port is infact the NIC port?

I have had blueyonder 0.5MB for about three months and have been very happy with them.

The engineer ran a coax cable the length of my flat (about 15metres), though he couldn't put it under the carpet. If you are going wireless soon then you could probably get the install to go quicker if you have your laptop installed near your wall box.

If you have analogue cable TV, then they will need to change your wallbox, and make a quick swap in the junction box in the street. I am not sure if you can have analogue cable TV and broadband, you might have to upgrade to digital cable TV.

The process should be over and done in a couple of hours. Get your ethernet (MAC) address handy. the ethernet address is hard coded into the NIC, so if you do not have a NIC yet, you will have to sort that out when you get one.

If the house/flat/home doesnt have digital service to it then the weblink on the blueyonder website that offers you to check if they can offer broadband in your home will indicate whether or not the box at the end of the street has a sort of "digital ready" signal.
To a cable customer, thats basicaly what digital meens = interactive/broadband.
The cable (coax) to your cable modem is purely a TV signal backbone
check this out if your interested in how it works lol...

Oh no it's not, the MAC address is hard coded into the cable modem, satellite modem etc, not the NIC and will be supplied with such.

PS NTL 600K BB installed today, after eight weeks of NTL cockups, Yippee!!!! Now ex-Netsystem?

yep Telewest need ur pc's mac address.u need to give it to them when he comes or he will chk it him self :)

NTL is different

If the engineer is comeing to install it, dont bother getting your own mac address, the chances are youll read the wrong number, and he will be scratchhing his head as to why it isnt working, just let him do what he needs to do.

i've got TW being installed on the 30th of this month when i move house - having the whole lot put in - our new house has a tv arial and sky running into the living room - so probably time to get the coax cutters out and sell the minidish on ebay lol
