Box Broadband being rebranded Community Fibre

That includes meeeeeee!

It's going to be interesting, as a Box customer, how they manage this. I assume we won't be migrated over, and the two networks operate in different ways. From what I can tell. Box uses PPPoE - which I don't think CF does.

No indication yet that we'll get 3gbps/3gbps - as we're G-PON not XGS-PON.

Box also has really good customer support, which I assume won't continue. Also concerned that we'll end up with CG-NAT.

I highly suspect that in the short to medium term, things will operate exactly as-is. As you say, the technical stack are very dissimilar. Granted, they both use the same physical layer but everything below the fibre appears different.

That being said, supporting disparate systems does not drive economies of scale, so change is likely to come at some point, unless a sale/consolidation of CF comes first. Who knows.

Either way, I suspect you'll end up joining CF's support function. I'll refrain from commenting on the effectiveness of that team but i'm sure you'd notice some change. Tech changes, such as the move to XGS-PON are likely to be much slower. CGNAT could come sooner though, depending on how complex this is to integrate.

Also worth noting that there's no reason a change in brand will change anything. CF have had the opportunity to unify tech under the Box brand ever since they took over. They'll only do so when there is customer demand and the competition pushes them. A very similar story to Openreach and the other providers who are running more "legacy" technologies.

Anyway, let's wait and see what happens!
