Breathe and Ecosse.Net mail service

I used to have a commercial Web site hosted by Ecosse.net a really friendly small ISP based near Inverness in the Scottish Highlands. I was with them for over 6 years before moving to Canada. My web site then was http://www.towerelectronics.com hosted by Ecosse. The domain name has since been re used.

I kept my ecosse.net email address as all my friends knew it, and the Web mail interface was excellent, for I am a Ships Officer and sail round the World often accessing the Net as I am now via V-Sat and TelNOR in Norway. I need a lean and mean Web mail interface, hence NO to hotmail and others of that type.

Then came BREATHE! The service stopped for a day and night. Then a horrible over complex and bandwidth HUNGRY Web Interface came along, with no spell check or working spam filter!

I LOST all my archived material, software registration codes, passwords, and phone numbers stored over the years in folders in my Ecosse.net mail service.

The Service then went down again. Last Friday. It is now Tuesday the following week and still nothing. I can not send out any emails, as my other account with Ontera.net in Canada has a password which I can not remember, for yes, it was stored on Ecosse.net's mail server.

I can not phone a premium phone line from the Ship, for I am in the Indian Ocean off NW Australia right now. Can anyone please register my plight with them my email is tower@ecosse.net or should that now be WAS tower@ecosse.net

I do not mind paying for the ecosse.net email address if that is all this is about, but WITH NO EMAIL CONTACT address given by BREATHE just a premium cash as you call help line what the heck am I supposed to do for the next 3 months on the Northwest Shearwater at SEA???

Tower@ ecosse.net
- - - - it's as above, we all seem to be in the same boat as yourself (couldn't resist the pun).

I've currently deals in the pipeline worth nearly 10k UKpounds taht are stymied because of this downtime. Breathe don't seem to give a fig, they took over a very successful little service and promptly ruined it for the users. IMHO they are/were looking for us all to upgrade onto their super duper (NOT) breathe services, and when we didn't they relegated anything ecosse to the back burner - if it gets fixed it gets fixed, if it doesn't, why worry - they're (ecosse.net users) not bringing in enough income.

Try what you can for an alternate address and set it up pronto, it's a pain, but I don't see ecosse as a viable service anymore.

I do, I do, I do :smilet:

But this was at the time a wee tiny free-lance biz that was like topsy - it just growed. And now I'm retired, it's a paying hobby :) I'm in the process of changing the e-mail to all my clients, honest, but "mel at ecosse.net" is just so/too good to lose!

The service from ecosse was unbelievably good, which was maybe a bad thing in one sense, we all loved it and got nice wee messages any time we had a problem and contacted them!

Anyhow, as of about thirty minutes ago it's back up - but e-mails since Thursday are in limbo and not there.

And for tower, try it quick for a download, but note also look at this link

http://www.cali.co.uk/ecossespecial.htm

where Calico are doing a price special for ecosse clients, might be suitable for what you want, although you can't get an ecosse.net address back.

Breathe update on their website about ecosse.net

Ecosse users- 16/01/2008
Taken from the support page on the Breathe web site...

The Ecosse mail servers are now fully back up and running.

There was a large amount of email backlog but as of this morning this appears to have been cleared and email is being sent in a timely manner to users accounts.

We would like to apologise to our users for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards

Yes I can confirm that the Server is back up and running and BETTER STILL all my saved emails are back online along with the spam filter which is working for the first time on my account now. Good Job Breathe.. Thank you. tower@ecosse.net lives again to my friends and family.

"We are all in the same boat" :) Oh Dear, we are now ready to sail to Japan with our cargo of LNG and then I pay off and go back home to Timmins Canada where my ISP is Ontera.net They are VERY GOOD but beware of Persona, an aggressive marketing USA based ISP, they are pure CRAP! and they do not own the Backbone in Canada which is mostly in the North owned by Ontera and Nor-Tel.

Thanks to the Mods for the quick registration, cool cool cool.

Thank you Mel for that, I think I will support Calico for even though I no longer live in Scotland, I was so impressed by the friendly service I always got from them during the years I did have a domain name hosted by them, I rekon I owe them and it is so NICE to have a cool email like xxx@ecosse.net don't you think when the whole World it would seem is on Hotmail, Google or Yahoo!
