Only 1 day to go untill broadband limits are removed.

I have literally everything crossed this time around that i will get it no reason why i shouldnt though i am only 65.9db & that was a test which was done when the gain was turned on on the line. Its now off.

Only question i have is, bt have stated that they can re-wire your line at the exchange why couldnt they of done this in the first pace?

Which ISP is everyone signing up with then?

We're going with Pipex - mainly because there's no activation charge, and they give you a free modem. Good / bad choice?

Im going with Ideal from lloyds tsb they use plus net i believe.

had an advanced order with them since the start of august

From what I gather they do not re-wire the line at the exchange but send an engineer out to your house to poke at your master socket so that the adsl signal is taken at the first possible point and will not be affected by any bad wiring in the house.

They (bt) send the guy out (for free \o/) if the first self install does not appear to work.
If the new master socket doesnt fix the problem then they say "sorry" and walk away quickly before you can fetch your axe or shotgun.. (I have my one ready for that moment :P)

I thought that BT's availability checker was updating this morning. Anyone noticed any changes? The only change I can see is that my line now says "that despite an enigineers visit we were unable to provide you with broadband". That was in Feb / March when we were told the attenuation was 62dB! Think I'm going to have to ring BT!

I also have had a look at the BT checker this morning for my number which shows:

Your exchange has ADSL broadband.

However, despite an engineer's visit to your premises it has been proved not possible for your telephone line to support broadband service. Please accept our apologies. We are continuing to look for alternative technology solutions and this site will be updated with developments as they happen.

But like Unicast the last time I tried to order BB was back in June and was told it was not available.

Strange.

If you want to email Ben Verwaayen BTs CEO and see if he can help I can supply his email address just pm for it but please do not post it in any open forums.

Thanks Kits, I already have the address as I have e-mailed him before on the subject of getting BB!!

I just think that line result is a bit odd as surely no engineers have been on my line since the new limits came into effect this morning?

Cheers Kits - already got his e-mail address. Just firing one off now!

It's also worth mentioning that there's no point copying any e-mails to Alison Ritchie as she's out of the office until 13th Sept.

Checker result has changed twice for me this morning, first saying I should get 1 & 2 meg, second saying I may get 1 meg but might need an engineer to visit.

Already have filtered face plate from isdn conversion though and have ordered my upgrade to 1 meg with eclipse this morning... If my router readings are correct it should work :D

Just had a reply from BT's Broadband Communications Centre apologising. They're getting back to me when they've found out what's gone on.

Checker for my number has now changed from "no service available" to "should be able to receive a 256/512 service"

Fingers crossed.

We were looking at signing up with Pipex, but their checker won't let us place an order - keeps saying "Insufficient Line Quality." I'll try again later I think when they've had chance to update their systems.

Strange results for mine.

I've already got a 521k connection but the checker says that I may need an engineer to visit if I want a 1Mb connection.

I've already got a engineer installed faceplate when I converted from Home Highway and at the time he said that my line noise was 43Db. I would have thought this would be good enough on it's own for a 1mb connection according to the new rules.
