Broadband drop outs

Switched to FTTC and have new equipment and new line installed. . About once twice a day we get very short drop outs. We've checked our diagnostics and can't find anything wrong. Irritating when streaming something important. Weather does not seem to affect it and yes got cable from pole...sigh
Anyone on the forum know just how often it is the ISP/openreach fault and why? ISP is BT. thanks

It depends how new your line is as they will be testing the line over the first 10 days or so to find the most stable connection so this might be the reason why.

The line is 7 months old and had copper until FTTC about 6 weeks ago, (there was an old line we renewed it all when the house was remodelled). it drops out for say 30 seconds 1minute once or twice day. Same equipment on both services.

FTTC is still copper to the exchange, so it's still subject to interference from say a dairy farm doing its milking twice a day and the electric pump motors.

Do the drops have any pattern (e.g. occurring at similar times of day). Also, have you checked to make sure this isn't a WiFi issue (e.g. by connected to a wired link instead of wireless)? Next, have you been monitoring for changes in the connection speed over time?

Otherwise, I'd suggest going into the router settings and looking for the connection details like attenuation, connection speed and noise margin (SNR). If you paste the output from that, then we might get an idea of what's happening on the copper line itself.

Thanks Mark. we will check. the wifi is ruled out as the TV drops with data cable It happens for a very short time up to 30 seconds say - sometimes it might happen and not notice but at least twice a day and not at set times. The same equipment on copper as now for FTTC and it only happened since we switched in June. I have not been monitoring speeds but they are pretty good. Some of the diagnostics we can't get to as the IMAC seems a bit iffy so we have a bit to sort out. We have a more unusual set up than most. Just wondered if the short drop outs are more likely us or the ISP.

Connection drops are usually more on the ISP/physical line side, particularly if you've already been able to rule out flaky WiFi as the cause, and it hits all devices at the same time.

Thank you - we will go 'down the list" we had all new stuff house rewired nd ll - and pretty advanced wifi - and this was all OK on all copper - this is since FTTC came in June when I was waiting for a port! . I was, I suppose wondering if it were the ISP end - just what causes about 30 second drop outs! and can't seem to find that level of detail online
