Broadband fault

Bures

ULTIMATE Member
My neighbours"AOL" broadband has failed. The only light on the ADSL modem is red for power, no data light.
The modem is connected directly to the Master Socket with everything else disconnected, and still no data light.
If we contact "AOL" the service provider I am at a loss to know how they can tell if its the BT line or a faulty modem.
Wouldnt life be easy if you could get a simple "LED" tester to plug into the filter which would indicate the presence of data !

Ask your ISP AOL for a line test. This should test if your internet exchange is managing to send data to your household.
If the exchange is working fine you have a dead modem I think.

Haven't you got a spare modem you can try? That'll tell you whether the modem is dead or not.

also try another filter

Problem now resolved.
What I didnt realise was that the neighbour had changed the PC. Installed the normal AOL CD software but unfortunately the driver disk in the BT Voyager modem box was lost, so it got ignored.

Borrowed an BT Voyager driver CD, fired the modem (DSL green light) into action.
I would have thought the light would have been on because it was receiving data from the line and not reliant on the drivers ?
