broadband pure and simple?

Do anyone know of an ISP from whom I can get "just broadband" (no email, no stupid home page full of celebs etc etc). I'm currently with Virgin (not cable), am thoroughly p....ed off with them and with the speeds they give me, but have basic AOL webmail from having once been with them, and it's enough. All I need is someone who'll provide me with broadband web access - cheaply!

BT used to offer a 'No Frills' Broadband service that was access-only based but I'm not sure whether they do that anymore. The thing is all those extras (e-mail, webspace, mechanical killer kittehs etc.) only cost a tiny fraction of what the access costs to deliver, so there's not much point leaving them out. Indeed you don't have to use them.

Check out Aquiss, IDNet, Zen and a few others if you want quality or SkyBroadband if you want to save and already have a Sky TV connection. On the other hand, if you’re not a heavy downloader or picky about top speeds then you could get more radical and consider a ‘Mobile Broadband’ service from Three.

if its basic broadband cheap why not look at talk talk free broadband you dont have to use their home page setup your own i use the bbc homepage at bbc.co.uk now use the new beta one as it gives news headlines and weather reports in my face as soon ai i logon and i use googlemail instead of my isp mail saves problems if i migrate

talk talk make you use their telephone service but this is competetive against BT

or as mark j says sky offer competetive priced broadband if you reside within their llu coverage

I'm with fast.co.uk (NOT fast4) and they dont have e-mail or web space and so far (fingers crossed) everything is going fine. I must admit I didn't know this when I signed up ( 1 month ago), I just asumed they did have these things. I don't actually need them so it's not a problem to me.

You don't generally have to use their email domains, and if you want a differnt homepage just change it in IE.

I'd suggest your first priorities should be reliability and price, as these are probably the most important factor for most people (and FUP/download allownaces if you're going to be downloading a lot).

Any Enta reseller seems a good bet right now, and perosnally I would NOT touch AOL / Tiscali / Fast4.

If you have a contract o2 phone you might want to have a look at them - I think it is still £7.50/month if you have a phone with them, and it will be goiing up to 12.50 soon (end of March I think) for new customers (but the £7.50 cost is permanet if you sign up in time, I think).

Alternatively, if you want to download a lot, and you can get it, Be is worth a look. You don't get any webspace or emails (I think both are additional cost extras) but you do get fast download speeds.

Thanks Mark at Fast. I re-read my e-mail and yes it does say I can have e-mail by following the URL you gave me. I don't actually need it as I have been with Yahoo for years now and am quite happy with it.
Thanks

I was with Tiscali (DO NOT GO WITH THEM) then switched to Virgin Media, also a mistake.

I am now with Titan ADSL, and they are the best broadband service i've ever been with. I give TitanADSL a thumbs up. *thumbs up*

l personally am thinking of migrating myself.. can anyone link me to that entanet reseller with the 300Gig off peak transfer.. lve been thinking that in all honestly lve never passed the 200gig mark so l shouldnt have a problem as long as l am on 1meg now l shouldnt ever pass that mark because l dont download enough to even if l am somewhat of a heavy user.

So Titan are better than Tiscali & Virgin. Wow. That's damning with faint praise (although I know that's not how you meant it) :)

all of the enta resellers offer pretty similar packages!!

to name a few

Cheers for the nod, and indeed we do. The free add-ons vary provider to provider but seeing as the OP doesn't want any, then the only differentiator would be from a customer service aspect I suspect.
