Would seem there is a lot of cloak and dagger going on between BT and the Government. Starts with refusal to investigate illegal activity by BT in 2006/7 with the interception of people’s communications. Now seems many could face no help if they cannot get a phone line thanks to this Government releasing BT from its obligations.

I smell a rat as this will allow BT to print money again they already do with faults when they fail to find faults say need engineer then charge. Plus costs of new phone line are extortion.
Communications minister Lord Carter is to free BT from its universal service obligations - its legal duty to run a phone line to every home in the country, as well as provide payphones and other basic services available at a reasonable cost.
Instead Carter is expected to call for universal broadband access, wireless or wired, for every home to be an obligation for the industry as a whole.
