Hey guys,
I'm in need of some desperate help here.
I'm a student, about to move in to a house with 4 other people, and the time has come to think about phone and internet and we decided BT for phone...
Now, I've looked in to this quite a bit, the last tenants (who moved out in July) were BT customers themselves, whos contract ended in July, I was told about the BT connection charge of 122.50 or something that we would likely have to pay to get the line reactivated, however, I was then told that if all the connections at the house were in order and a dial tone was found then we would not have to pay that charge.
I just rang up BT to order and they told me we would still have to pay the reactivation charge despite having a dial tone and it working perfectly fine (before the contract ended in August I tried the phone and it worked) and the reason was something to do with an engineer needing to set up a connection between the exchange and our house... How could we receive a dial tone if the connection isnt set up?
We pretty much dont want to pay this charge, we feel that there is no reason for it (dial tone, when connected to BT previously the phone worked fine etc) and are concerned they are trying to pull a fast one on us, is there anything we can say to battle this charge, why would they still charge us even if we have a dial tone etc etc.
