BT Full Fibre without landline

We're now able to order FTTP but currently only from BT. The prices are not bad but the telephone call charges are a little steep compared with our current provider.

I could ask BT but they don't always know what they can and can't do. So does anyone here know if you can take BT's FTTP service without a landline or maybe can they offer VoIP.

Thanks

If only that were true.

The area has only just gone live with FTTP in the last week or so. No other ISP recognises that we have it. Also while a number of ISPs offer FTTC not all offer FTTP.

It is true, if BT retail can offer it then any other ISP can offer it as well, it may need some one to manually check the availability than going through the automated systems.

The Openreach site lists the current ISPs able to offer FTTP via Openreach local access:

Most are even more expensive than BT after introductory discounts are taken into account. Maybe the recent (or pending) introduction of Sky to this market will shake prices up a bit.

Things are obviously changing daily as a couple of days ago some of those suppliers didn't even have our area on their lists but now they do. A quick look does, as you say, indicate that most of them are more expensive than BT.

Thanks

This may help:

As for the subject of phone lines. Originally new Openreach based FTTP installs came with a transition product that also gave you a copper phone line, but now most ISPs are moving to sell data-only solutions and so any voice product will be VoIP based or simply left up to the end-user to pick a VoIP provider.

OP, have you actually tried calling BT sales yet? Their call packages (unlimited calls) can be heavily discounted if you speak to the right sales person.

As for other CPs not showing FTTP yet for your property, thats purely down to their in-house checkers. Over time, they *should* be updated.

Thanks for all your replies but I've gone with BT.

Martin, thanks for the link to your company but unfortunately you are more expensive than BT and I would still need to have a telephone line from someone else

You could have gone for a VOIP provider instead of a land line

Which would have added to the cost.

There are pros and cons of VOIP and I think I'd prefer good old fashion copper.

BT Engineer came around today to do a survey and didn't see any problem. They have to run across a road which already has the copper line under it - then across my garden to the house some 25m or so.

Voip might be the longer term strategy but right now for me I think I'll just let the transfer to FFTP go first and stick with the copper phone line.

One issue being that as we live in a rural area in which power cuts are not unknown we'd still be able to use the phone line with copper.

Get a battery back up UPS to run your ONT/router/ VoIP phone, that should sort those issues.

If SOGEA is available at Wholesale level it doesn't mean ISPs are compelled to sell it. Anyway could you provide the link where BT sell FTTP as a SOGEA product?
