Can you tell us what modem/router you are using?
The internal wireing set up?
Look for possible causes for extra noise on the line what is in use when you have the slower speeds that isn't when you are on 5mbish?

using the home hub
nothing changes ( the only thing plugged in is the home hub ) sky is disconnected ive just rebooted the hum, connected at 4.5 yet dl speed is 45kbps

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 350 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1088 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 291 kbps

ok your profile will reset itself over th next 3 days but you are not connected at 4.5 you are just above 1mb. Can you retake the speed test from the test socket behind the faceplate on BTs master socklet with all other equipment disconnected. IE telephones sky box extensions. then post the results.

Back a long I too had the same trouble with BT from March through to May and visits from 3 engineers and treats of £116 + vat & £90 ph X 3 and India trying to teach me to suck eggs. I rang BT for a mac got it and told them they where in breach of their end of the contract and they refunded my 3 months they already taken out my account. So BT routers are rubbish full stop:( I had 3 the first one failed the same day I pluged in the 2nd one was a non starter & no3 just trottled the speeds :crap: It has something to do firmware that BT use and system called rambo which selects your speed i.e what it thinks is the right you should have and not what expect?:hrmph:
