BT Losing customers ! Anyone surprised?

WIth their premium pricing, they should be losing more !

And surprisingly, the writer slipped in another plea by VodaCON chief to "please" allow the merger to go through, else UK will be left behind (scare mongering again).

As if UK solely depends on Voda to pull it out of its own mess (in not investing in a timely manner).

How the media manipulates! It was an article about BT losing BB customers, yet slipped in a subtle piece from VODA chief, begging for the merger to be approved, else doomsday will descend on UK !

Sorry I can't read the Telegraph article (as I don't have a subscription) but BT are trying to move all there residential customers to EE, so if it is just BT numbers, then you would expect BB customer numbers to be going down as they move to EE.
But there are a lot of other options from altnets so I suppose it's to be expected...

At least you get fibre by the sounds of it! We're stuck with ADSL at up to 19mbps.

Have Virgin Media HFC broadband in the area but that's it, all other options would be data.

it's in that list

when will open reach upgrade your area? for my area, they say by 2026
I think I'm roughly expecting it to happen by 2026 as well, Nexfibre are due to be building in parts of the city (I'm not sure if it upgrades the existing HFC infrastructure in areas to FTTP or not) and I assume they'll start building once that happens.

BT should be running at least a bit of fibre down here soon enough, they have a planning application for a Street Hub in an area that's currently FTTC afaik

My exchange is listed there though too

Openreach/BT often costs 2-3x as much for FTTP and only has 100mb uploads.

CityFibre and other altnets its symmetrical speeds for significantly less. I cannot see why anyone unless forced with no other options would ever go for Openreach.

The only thing Openreach has going for it is a very smooth switchover to a different provider.

How many of those have migrated over to EE Broadband though?

Yeah, I think VM is about £26 for 132mbps atm, I think that was roughly what we were paying before the April price rise (O2 contracts are separate and I intend on keeping it that way)

I currently pay £95.77 for BT Halo3+, on checking they are offering a renewal of £64.99. Given part of the benefit was discounted mobile phone contracts (which were expensive) I've moved 5 family members off and saved probably £70pm.
In tandem to the renewal date I've installed Community Fibre which has been working without any issue, 6 months free (still in that period) and £26pm.
The BT line (900) is now only used for backup, i'll be leaving BT on contract expiry.
A no brainer, I have a 5G modem with a 3Mobile sim for £5pm as an alrenative backup.

God, that is expensive

I think it's roughly £45 for M250 and two phones on 100GB and unlimited data on VM

It is because loyalty doesn't pay.....the compounding years of increases made it a winner for BT, plus almost any change renews a 24 month contract
Yes - 24 month contracts are a complete rip off and only really seemed to come in once OFCOM allowed mid-contract CPI+ prices rises.
OFCOM should enforce max 12 month fixed price contracts

I would honestly say it's due to EE. I only see the odd one or two BT routers now in this direct area, the rest is EE. It's so plainly clear that this is due to the transfer and not actually customers ditching BT. Typical of the "torygraph"

Edit: should probably make clear that any smart hub is likely broadcasting over EE, although this can also be from people who have switched to EE directly

although that is not exactly a like for like comparison. BT's standard 900Mbps price (without halo, 4g backup, etc) seems to be around £45 in a "competitive area" (ie altnet is available). I would expect CF's pricing to rise as they finally recognise the need to bring in the dosh.

If you are happy with random 5G routers and SIMs that aren't really intended for data use then go for it, but that's also not comparable to the ISP-supplied offers. It's worth noting that BT's version is available, without Halo, for £7.50 a month - and it's unlimited usage.

and the lack of physical work needed to switch, which will be a compelling reason for some people. Not everyone wants their garden dug up again, or yet another box on the wall.

2 to 3 times? Might have to show your working on that one - and the demand for symmetric upload speeds remains far lower than people insist

People seem to forget that Openreach's prices are controlled by Ofcom so they can't undercut the alt nets for pricing, the alt nets undercut because they have no brand recognition like BT or Openreach for that matter, though I did get a deal for 37 pound a month on a business contract from Talktalk for 900mbps with 4 static IP addresses
