BT MaxAdsl Query

I've moved from onetel 1mb broadband to bt maxadsl option 3

When with onetel my 1mb connection was fine with average download speeds of 105-110k - which for where i live was excellent

i've now gone to bt total broadband package and got their bthomehub equipment - my line has been syncing at 2208 (roughly 2mb) - but my download speeds are only 50-55k which was what it was like when i was on a 512k connection.

even if i reset router and let it resync even at 1mb, my download speeds are exactly the same.

i'm within the 10 day line calibration time, but i would have thought that my download speeds would change to be inline with what speed i am connecting with. Is this correct, should i be getting low downloads speeds when connected at 1mb, 1.5mb or 2mb during this period and will it update once got past the 10 days, or should i be getting speeds in proportion to the sync speed.

my upload speed is a 448, and tests show it to be averaging around (390kbps) 39kb

all that has changed is my ozenda router for the bthomehub and my broadband from 1mb onetel to bt maxadsl. no other hardware software changed

regards
walkerx

This is a common problem. When users are upgraded for some reason their profile does not change, so therefore the throughput does not increase even though the router is syncing at higher speeds.

At your sync you should be getting throughput of 2mb.

Wait until the 10days are over, speak to your isp to see if your msr and ftr have been set. If you have no improvement then get them to raise a fault.

would restarting the router during these tests have any affect on the link and what my final speed would be or powering the device off overnight etc

I myself have been regraded by Aol to 2mb

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 288 / 2.272

Quite happy with that seeing as i could never get 512kbps till the limits were removed.

However i am having huge problems at the moment my 1mb connection worked just fine without any erros by the way.

I actually ran a speed test and managed to connect at 1606kbps was very happy with that but i had to move the modem due to where it was located and that was it since then ive been syncing very low luckily i can still get online just about.

I actually had a maximum connection speed of wait for 8kbps i was totally amazed.

Apparently there is a fault on my line now and bt are investigating.

Its abit strange that ive not been moved to max however i am having the same issues as if i had of been.

(i would like to point out i have two broadband lines in my house one with aol the other with the services i am provided with free of charge)

BT recommend that get the best stable connection leave your router/modem on constantly, stable means stable while maybe dropping some speed.

Dont disconnect or keep resetting it. If the line is stable for 10 days then your speed will increase, after that the profile updates approx every three days although mine last updated on Aug 19th

thanks

i spoke to them earlier and they said to wait till 17th of sept - was told even though connected at 2272Kbps the download speed maybe lower than what i was on before, but should be ok after the 17th

i'll see how it goes

yet when had 1mb adsl connection never had problem with disconnections like this - wonder if water got in the box on the pole again (happens quite often)

but it also can't seem to pick up the right uptime
Type: PPPoA
Uptime: 2445 days, 20:48:09

i only got connected on the 7th September and i'm hoping the link doesn't stay at less the .5 mb

The throughput speeds will stay at 448 max for the next 3-4 days unless it syncs at a lower speed yet again, you do look like your on a very long like there 63.0 db but the SNR does seem to be on the high side aswell at 17 should be around 10db for any line to be stable.

If you have had the thunderstorm while the line is in the training period you will want the line retraining for a MSR reset as it will may hamper you being able to raise a fault in the future.

the link was back up over 1mb this morning when checked

as for distance from exchange yes I'm miles away - i was borderline for homehighway and was refused it when that was out

I had to wait for 512k when they extended the reach, and again for 1mb when they extended that to the old limits for 512k. I've only had a few problems in all my time with broadband but everytime it was a fault with bt pole or box in the street.

with 1mb i could stay active for many days, with constant download speed of 108k - only time the link went down was when i was changing settings or testing various firmwares

i'll check tonight what the link speed is and see if gone back to 2mb, also i'll power it down for about 30 mins if needed (wife won't like it though)

if doesn't sync at min 1mb after the 10 days, could i force bt to put line back to standard 1mb adsl
