BT says I cant get 2Mb but Im on it ??

Ok..
Anyone seen this before ??
Im currently on 2Mb ADSL (IPstream type), signed up no hassle etc..
But been having problems with the ISP (Their/BT's Routers keep crashing...) so have been looking for another ISP.
I went to one today, but after puting my Phone Number in it said I couldnt get 1 or 2Mb ?

I went to BT's page - http://www.bt.com/broadband/ and checked there..
It said this....

Our initial test indicates that it is VERY UNLIKELY you will be able to receive 512Kbps or 256Kbps broadband service due to the very long length of your telephone line. However, your order will be accepted if you still wish to order. An engineer may need to visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service. It is currently not possible to provide the 1Mbps or 2Mbps ADSL broadband services.

Seeing as im on 2Mb already.. Kinda odd I thought.
So I put in my PostCode.. Checks out fine, says I can get 2Mb etc..
So I put in my NextDoor Neighbours Tel No.. (From same Telegraph pole..) Yes, He can get 2Mb etc.. Weird ??

Anyone else seen this happen ?? BT obviously has got it wrong cos im ON 2Mb already..... :laugh:

The only reply I got from BT is they cant help me because im not on BT-Yahoo or BT-Openworld :hrmph: Why should it matter which ISP I am with when its their checker thats wrong ??

To say they Doubt I could get 512kb when im happily on 2Mb is stupid.
Basically im Stuck with the ISP im with cos all the rest "think" I cant get it :mad:, even the 1 im with now says I cant on their checker :shrug:
 
Why not drop a line to one of the saner isp's such as NDO or Vispa, I'm sure that if you explain the situation you'd get a possitive response,they'll know from experience that the linechecker has a split personality.

Just write a few emails outlining the fact that you already have 2mb and wait for the most sensible reply. Anyone that replies that you can't receive a 512 service probably isn't a good choice anyway.

Failing that call Mulder and Scully!

You could email BT's CEO and explain your problem he has been very helpful to others recently. I have his email address if you wish to contact him Please PM for it if you are going that route.
 
I have a similar problem where the BT line checker is convinced I am very unlikely to get any form of broadband. However, I had to get an engineer to come and remove my isdn connection to check if I could get broadband and was surprised to find that I could get a 1 meg connection. The question is will the line checker be updated by BT. I have a 512 connection working fine at present (even although the line checker doesn't think it is possible on my line) and I may want to go to 1 meg in the future so I need the database to be up-to-date. Anyone know how quickly after a line check BT update the data for the line on their availability checker?

The weird thing with me is, It USED to say I could get 2Mb etc.. (Thats why I was able to get it in 1st place :laugh: )
But since they updated things after the FarReach trial, its convinced I'll have a hard time getting even 512Kb.
