BT Smart Hub 3 Launch

EE broadband only? Well in that case I hope the smart hub 3 still comes with a phone port at least.. and can be used with BT if they have decided to release only an EE branded one..

Well a month later and still nothing, it's quite depressing being stuck on the smart hub 2 which is somehow worse than the smart hub 1, that I'm unable to use because a family member wanted VOiP. And for whatever reason BT/OR decided to move the phone port to the router instead of keeping it on the ONT. 🤬
can you just not your own router on BT FTTP?

Well they want to keep the phone, that requires the BT router
o using a router with a phone port doesnt work ?

Correct, at least I don't think that's changed
ok i see, well im switching to BT FTTP 900 on the 9th of this month, do i get a pppoe login or is bt fttp DCHP?

They must be using port based authentication to identify usage of specific customers. BT has always been the generic login on PPPoE.

I'm pretty sure the internal rebranding has already taken place, just not externally. I was negotiating a contract rise with BT via live chat and noticed this on the email sent:

Surprised nothing else has came about since.

What a weird trial, only available to non customers.

I guess if they covering the monthly sub they decided to instead use it as a customer acquisition tool, cheaper to lose a new customer discoutned rate vs an existing customer.

The information I have been given is that testing of the new SmartHub3 is all passed off to the product launch team but this is part of the major BT - EE branding change so will possibly delay customers being able to order it for a bit longer.

Interestingly a few Openreach engineers in my area have reported seeing the new EE SmartHub 3 for new EE FTTP customers who signed up for the trial they have confirmed that Wi-Fi speeds are very good and a lot higher than previously

I would hope it was noticeably better than the previous gen. The SH2 is pretty much identical spec to the SH1 which came out in 2016, all that changed was the slightly updated SoC to support VoIP.

@Flagrag Any news on if BT customers will be able to switch supplier to EE for the Hub 3?

I also take it some form of mesh like whole home is also happening?

Yes from the information I have been given once launched there was an easy way for a BT FTTP customer to migrate over to EE (Will likely involve a commitment to a new contract) if not you will be migrating over from BT to EE late 23-24

The SmartHub 3 / SmartHub Plus customer beta testing only started a few weeks back, so I'd imagine it'll be the end of spring, as they normally allow c.3 months for final trials prior to launch - unless major problems are detected. But I should probably hit up my sources to find out for sure what's happening.

On the other hand, BT's next quarterly results are out around mid-May, so that's often a time window that is used for big announcements.
